I saw this in a cafe this morning and took a photo of it. More pink than red, in full bloom, beautiful. A classic rose shape, a whorl of petals and a swirl of colour. I like the way the petals fold back giving their edges a more angular look. The green leaf attached to it is pure green and adds a contrast in colour.
I wouldn’t say it was a brilliant photo, the background is over exposed, as is the rose slightly. It’s not fully in focus, but I like it anyway.

Yes I’m painting my husband as a green man. This is about two hours in. I’m limiting the pallette to only greens white and dark grey. I think I’m getting a reasonable likeness to him although his nose may be a little long and his face is a bit narrow. The cheeky eyes staring out make me want to laugh, so often he’s serious, he’s got a lot on his mind. Also I rarely paint faces on this scale, it’s quite a big canvas so any mistakes are magnified. As you can see I have not sketched this out except initially in a darker green. I’m adjusting positions of his features as I go along. However I’ve stopped for a rest and to charge my phone as it is going flat and I’m holding the phone to work from. Modern day painting eh? And yes his nose needs to be bigger.

This is a digital drawing based on an old tile. I won’t bore you with the app I used it’s on my tablet and I haven’t been able to use it for a while as it needs fixing.
I drew it in 2016 and I don’t think I’ve shared it here before. It just popped up on my Facebook memories, and why not share it? It will just disappear into the aether again if I don’t.
I did try and create a glossy shine on it, but the chin is too big!

Spot the caterpillar
hanging on the tree
Munching through the greenery
Salad veg for free.
When it’s had its fill of leaves
It will moult and grow
Turning to a chrysalis
As days come and go.
Soon it will be changing
Into something new,
A very tiny changling
Butterfly, bright blue!

A warm evening in March, out at Westport lake. One of my favourite places for a walk. Over the last few years the trees have grown and the management of the lake has been taken over by Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. The sun reflects off the water and ripples from the swimming birds make it sparkle. The lake was artificially created from the remains of a marl pit (where they dug out the clay for potteries) and old mine workings. It was created for wildlife in the 1980s I think when Shelton Bar Steel works closed ?
Life spreads and grows. Greenery overtakes the tallest buildings, ivy scrambles, buddlea infiltrates. And beauty comes from waste and destruction.

Frosted glass with fish etched into it. A glass made from an old wine bottle cut in half. I’ve had this and it’s pair for about ten years?
It’s good to recycle things, save things from just getting smashed and and thrown away. Mind you now I’ve posted this no doubt it will get broken.
I like the colour of this. I guess it’s rather like an apple green colour. Tasty.

My partners been out putting seeds in the garden, pottering with plant pots and sitting in a chair in the sun.
Two magpies are trying to pull twigs off a buddlea Bush, they are building a raggadey nest in the top of one of the trees. They managed to break off 3 or 4 twigs while we watched.
It was so nice I decided to take a few photos. The first is the chair my partner was sitting in. He didn’t want his photo taken second is the cherry tree. With blossom buds about to burst. The third is another tree at the side of the garden, with a great big waving piece of white plastic in the top of it! I don’t know how it got there but I think it must have blown up in a storm. It doesn’t look like a plastic bag, maybe some plastic wrapping? Things are getting green. We need to wash plastic flower pots to reuse them, but I caught my partner burning perfectly good ones! Grr….

A scrambling, ground cover plant with pointed shiny green leaves and striking purple flowers. They have five petals that seem to spiral down to the pentagram at the centre. I think you can also get white and also blue versions with variegated leaves.
We just got this plant for the garden where I’m hoping it will take over from the ivy that is covering a large section of ground.

When I was a child I would sit next to your trunk
Hiding from view being your green screen.
Your roots must run deep down in the ground,
Water running through the earth,
Turning your leaves green before other trees.
Skeleton twigs surround you
Dark evergreen screens you
But only you swirl and wave in the breeze.
Dancing a ballet of soft leaves,
Your dress curves and waves in folds.
Once fully grown with green
Your leaves will make my hiding den again.
