My friends drawing of me

This is by my friend Ruth (@rumfluffart on Instagram.) it was based on her drawing of me that she did during one of our portrait drawing sessions. I like the way she has altered it in a programme called Procreate I think. Is something I would like to use but I don’t have the right type of phone or tablet to run it.

She has a good sense of colour and her artworks are accessable and fun.

Repurposing

I am doing another challenge. Its all about recycling or using old things and repurposing them. I tried wrapping an old gerkin jar in cardboard. My sticky tape wasn’t very good and wouldn’t hold it in place well. I used the labels on the cardboard as decoration. Then I looked for something else to add pattern (was thinking of collage) and I found a wax soaked drawing that was from a batik workshop with an artist called Belinda Latimer. I wrapped that over the top of the cardboard. Stuck on with the not very sticky tape. My hubby would only let me have a few tiny daffs from the garden. I put water in the jar but as the covering is not waterproof and the tape is not good I don’t think it will last very long!

Mark

Mark who was part of this evenings Clay Chorus group. He played two brilliant songs. I used a bit of monoprint to add shadows to the side of his face. I only used a bit as he was moving and playing his guitar as I was trying to sketch him.

I wish I had his skill and had carried on learning an instrument, it’s great to be able to play things, but my trumpet is staying firmly locked away!

Virtual tour

Well I decided to do a collage for #bandofsketchers prompt virtual travel. This is using bits of monoprint, bits from magazines, green post it notes and black ink pens. The view is where I want to be, Bovisand Bay, near Plymouth, South Devon.

I wanted you to feel the warm sunlight and the tide as it sweeps in and out of the bay. If I could be anywhere now it would be there!

Cat map?

I drew this years ago. A celtic style cat. I did a full colour acrylic painting afterwards but I don’t have a photo of that and I think my sister has it now.

I was trying to think of a subject for an illustrated map we have to do for college. I’ve been visiting a local lake recently and there is a hedge maze there. You cannot see the shape of it from the ground and it would be interesting in mapping it out, but I don’t own a drone camera! Then I thought the map might be based around ideas of the Staffordshire Hoard found in this area a few years ago. This was coins and gold sword ornaments and other pieces of treasure. I might base my map on these Saxon patterns. Then I did my original thesis on pre Christian celtic art, and that’s where the idea of a celtic cat came from.

Decisions…. What to draw…. Hmm
