A face

Making up faces, good practice if you don’t have anyone to draw. You can work out eye shapes and sizes, how would a long or short nose look? Big or small mouth thin or thick lips? Are the ears visible? How long or wide is the face, what shaped chin.

Drawing is a skill, practice does help. 10,000 hours is meant to make you an expert. Millimeters can change things, hair, makeup, colour, looking in different directions. Up down, sideways, three quarter view.

Please keep working, practicing, enjoy it.

Headache

My heads been aching all day….

I don’t normally get headaches. I have a pain behind my eyes, a thudding. I hope it goes soon. I think its caused by tension. I also ache, I hope it’s not some sort of bug. I’ve had a buzzing in my ears for a few days, maybe I need my ears syringing?

I’ve had some tablets, I hope they kick in soon. It feels scary. But it will pass. I’ll see how I feel in a bit x

Stare

Cats stare, they hardly blink, a slow closure of their eyes sometimes, or eyes tight shut, but you know they have half an eye checking out whats going on.

Ears pricked, listening for the rustle of a packet of food, the rip as you open it. They know the sound of a tin opening and releasing the smell of food.

Nose twitches, whiskers flex, mouth ready. Time for tea. And they move quickly when they tune into the signals you send them.

Abstracted reflection

Trees and roots and cars reflected in a photo, then filtered digitally in various ways. I have buzzing ears today so I don’t want to spend a long time describing what I’ve done to the photo. I could say my whistling ears have been partly responsible for this, undulating noise, like a tide whispering in and out, and the picture seems to be covered in dirty ice that lumps up over the surface? Anyway, it’s just an experiment for today. A bit of synesthesia perhaps?

Waiting for rain

Tonights sunset. We walked up our steep hill then took a slightly longer route home. At the bottom of the road back to home I saw this sunset and cloudy sky lightening the sky that had been dark and moody all evening.

I’m looking for faces in the clouds but all I can see a profile of a mouse with large ears, it has its front paws lifted up and large wings on its back. I used to think I had no imagination…

How do I draw a map?

I’m playing with different ideas. I held two pens together to try and get parallel lines, and I wanted to do something modern, a bit like graffiti for this. The writing says ‘walk this way to get to the treasure trove don’t get bitten on the way through the winding maze.’

There is a gaping mouth and a big staring eye. Big clawed feet and huge ears. The animals body is covered in flowers….fun..

Noise

Sound or noise seems to affect me more as I get older. Most people start to lose their hearing, but I can hear a wide range of pitches. I think it’s because I’ve always shied away from noisy situations. When I was younger I went to discos and things, but if the sound reverberated through my body, or I could feel it as a deep thud, I wouldn’t stay. Same with loud guitars and amplified music.

In the same way I’ve never used a Walkman or those earbud things although I have worn headphones occasionally. But only on low volumes. I know that sound concentrated in your ears can damage your hearing. I guess people like loud music and that younger people are already damaging their ears. Sometimes when we go to theatrical performances the background music is too loud, and now if I’m listening to the radio and they play music in the background it’s sometimes too loud and distracting. I even sat in another room when a band was playing yesterday, it makes me feel nervous and agitated if I get to close, how strange….

Give me peace and quiet. Or a gentle breeze stirring the leaves on the trees. The gentle melody of birds like Robins, Nightingales or Blackbirds. Not the growl of car exhausts pushed to breaking point, Jack hammers, and thudding sounds (I can’t call it music) from cars.
