New paintings and regular art updates.
Round the back of B’arts are a series of three murals. I think they may be constellations? I know there is a star group called Draco but I’m not sure about the Leopard or the Hare /rabbit? Anyway it’s a random piece of art but I do like it. There are chalked in letters above each animal so I’m guessing it’s not finished yet? Whatever, I love the movement in the animals. Good to see colourful art in the area.
My purse on my chair which I’m using as an easle. Paintings to the side and behind, pallette underneath it. Digitally manipulated. I just thought it looked interesting. The cat really has a strong stare. The way it’s crumpled makes it looks like it’s frowning. I don’t know whether anyone would actually like something like this?
Turn a tree upside down and it might look like it’s walking. Turn it on its side and it could be a running horse. Shapes can look like anything if you have that kind of mind. Simplify the shape and it becomes more like lots of different things. Stars turn into Gods and mythical beasts. Lines that don’t exist can be drawn on a map to create the Bermuda Triangle. Humans make up stories out of words and voices, but also from pictures and shapes, and I love that we do.
When we went to the canal festival a few weeks ago we both sat and drew. My hubby did a quick sketch of the large chimney at the back of the museum. You can see that although he doesn’t normally draw he’s got the idea of perspective and the regular lines on top of the bricks are the iron bands supporting the chimney all the way up its length. He’s also included a roof and trees and a brick wall.
Art isn’t something he generally does. He will pick up an adult colouring book sometimes but he tends to colour in with lines rather than shading things in fully. I think that is because he has a lot of anxiety and his mind bounces about and he doesn’t settle to one thing. But he is willing to try. I think that’s important. Art should be for everyone. They might not be Raphael or Titian but who knows what might emerge? Art is, I think, very important to humans, for aesthetics or design, communication or lifestyle. Just do it! ❤️
Staffordshire University is holding its first degree shows for a couple of years. We went to see the fine art show today. Its also on tomorrow. I thought the show was one of the best I had seen in years. (we go most years). There was a lot of interesting images and ideas. Some exceptional painters and thought provoking installations. I decided not to take photos as each of the students will have their own copyright and I didn’t have permission to take pictures of their work. If you are in the area tomorrow pop in and take a look? Having to describe what I have painted is hard, I know what I can see but finding a description that adequately explains it is difficult, especially since I’ve added texture and patterns. I’ve entered it for a local open art exhibition. It’s a bit of a risk, but I wanted to try. X
I’m trying to replicate a photo of a felt pen drawing I did that I had put through a filter in Photodirector. So this is an acrylic painting work in progress based on the filtered image. An analogue to digital and back to analogue image…. Its interesting to try and add the digital texture. Appeals to my pattern needs. I think I’m addicted to pattern!
Peeling paint filter over duplicated flags. I have tried to create an image that you might have found on an old billboard, perhaps in the states although the pattern is not correct (I’m not sure what country it represented, and as I have duplicated its more difficult to recognise). I might try and paint it as an abstract image.
I was showing someone how the layout app on my phone works so I took a photo of their garden then made this picture in the app. The architecture really works as a pattern, and the bright blue sky makes it feel fresh and interesting. Just play. That’s all…
Today, for the first time in two years I went back to Spode. I have a lot of paintings that I have done over the years. I’ve avoided going because of Covid and it felt so strange being there. Like the time hasn’t passed, and yet there are new people there. If I want to carry on being an artist I need to get my act together again. I called myself an explorative fine artist and I want to be one again.
