You were in that play
Playing on the monitor
From ten years ago
Still strong
Still vigorous
You portrayed a viking
From olden times
You gave your all
And tears drenched my face
How to go on
Without your embrace?

‘I still keep seeing hearts, and it makes me feel like smiling when I do’, she said.
It was over a year since he’d gone, she realised, and things had been hard. They hadn’t discussed anything, it was so unexpected.
About a week after he had died she found a pink, heart shaped petal on her pillow, she had left the window open for some fresh air and it had just appeared, probably on a gust of wind.
She spoke to her sister again. ‘it seems to happen about once a week, I will spot a heart shape somewhere. Daft things like a bubble in the bread was a little heart, heart shaped crisps, presents with them as decorations, stones on the beach, it just keeps happening’.
She remembered the heart shaped cloud that had floated over the house for an hour, just above his shed. Above where he had worked on his bikes and train sets. She knew he was still with her, keeping an eye on her. Maybe one day they would be back together.
What is good about having a pet?

When I’m feeling down and lonely
The cat will come to me
He jumps up for a little love
While sitting on my knee
He gives comfort when I am low
Dispels my sadness you see
That little cat who is my pet
Is my truest company.
Safe place

Staying home
Don’t want to go out
Into the world
This is my cocoon
Wrapped round me
His presence
His garden
My solace
Seeking salvation
My sanctuary.

I just woke up from a dream. I was in the street and I heard footsteps clattering up behind me. I turned and it was my hubby. Hair blowing behind him, his jacket flapping. He said a couple of words, something like ‘I’m here’? But then I woke up.
It’s not much of a story, but it was comforting. The thought that he is around somewhere, even if its just in my imagination made me feel better.

What is it about cats and bags? I caught the cat trying to get his head in a small paper bag yesterday, it hadn’t had food in it but he was intrigued anyway. They like the cloth bags from the local supermarket, but even get in the orange plastic carrier bags if I leave them on the sofa while I’m unloading the groceries. Sometimes though if I use the bag again they go off it (it must smell different).
What other things do they sleep on or in? Cat beds, a cat tree, cushions and chair throws, basically wherever they want and can fit. Occasionally they even sleep on the sofa or our chairs, but that’s usually after we have gone to bed. Yeah, cats rule round here!

Blugh! I feel tired and ill. Still negative for covid but getting fed up with my sore, croaky throat. It’s so annoying and it feels like it’s going on my chest. My body aches. It’s been so long since I’ve had a proper cold or flu, you forget how lethargic it makes you feel. I’m sitting with the cat poddling (kneading) my knee. Ouch, too tired to push him off. But it’s a comfort… And my nose keeps dripping like a tap. Hubby is cooking poached egg on toast. Hooray!

Where I curl
You can’t control
This is my space
If I want it.
Cats have rights.
The right to sleep
Eat and purr
Chase leaves and mice
But most of all
Be fed and watered.
We choose comfort
We give friendship
If you are lucky
Claws if you are not.
Don’t criticise
Our choice of bed!

My friends blue chair, its so comfortable. I had one like this, but mine had woodworm. I treated it then wondered what to do. One of the legs was worst effected so I got two thick metal knitting needles and pushed them up into the leg where it had broken. Then I got some electric flex and wound it up and down the leg until I had covered the missing section. The cable fitted in quite well with the woven split cane that covered the rest of it. A second treatment of woodworm killer, then I painted it bright red. Like my friends chair it was extremely comfortable. That Christmas I was short of money so I gave it my sister who had recently moved out of home. As far as I know she still has it thirty years later.
