Sundays #bandofsketchers prompt was hot…I’ve tried to draw a hot landscape, perhaps it could be death valley. The hot colours in the sky at dawn. What will the temperature soar to? The colours were done with glitter pens and a black italic nib pen.
New paintings and regular art updates.

Wild flowers sewn at a local car wash a few years ago are a riot of colours and shapes now. They haven’t been cut back and each year the crop gets more varied and colourful. I hadn’t seen the yellow spikes of flowers until this year. Unusually we have had a lot of rain recently and I think that has encouraged a spurt of growth.

I’m singing at the weekend and I needed a mediaeval type dress for a pageant. I found this in the local store. It’s very “flaggy” or like a patchwork. I’m going to wear it because it’s long enough to cover my legs and that means I can wear warm leggings underneath. I hope the weather is better than it has been all week. It’s been raining and cold.
It’s a wrap around dress and I had to move the button inside to slacken it off a bit. Anyway, wish our choir luck, we are going to need it if we aren’t going to get very wet!

Love of pattern
Shape and colour
Make me happy
Gives me joy.
Intricate design
Swirls and grids
Makes me excited
Somehow lightened
And restored

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was cross. I decided to try and draw some sort of jewel like cross. It got a bit messy as a felt pen drawing so I edited it adding texture with photodirector AI style and then added a background to it in the same app.

My old painting jeans. They are years old. When they started to split I started to sew. One patch of sewing covers another. Trying to keep up with the holes!
Mostly sewn with cotton reel thread, a few strands of embroidery silk. My stitches are no longer neat and small. My shaking arm makes it hard to hold the material while I try and stitch. The yellow is the latest cotton. I will swap to another colour soon. I just need to catch the rip below the pocket before it gets any worse. It’s really threadbare…
This is like the story of the old broom. It’s had three new stales and two new brush heads… But it’s still the old broom you always knew… X

I chose yesterday’s #bandofsketchers prompt. I suggested house. Well I decided to go off piste with this and do a digital finger painting in Artrage app. It’s meant to be a summerhouse. With splodgy flowers in front of it. I used different brushes to create the varied shapes.

A few weeks late because I couldn’t afford them earlier. Some of the trailing plants got damaged in their transport in the back of our car. I would like to get a few small colourful plants to dot around the yard and make it more colourful. I will see what cheap plants I can get locally.
These cheer me up. I know they will last well into autumn, and looking out the window on a cold damp day brings up my mood. X

One way to emphasise something is to get down low so the object or objects show up against the sky. Usually the idea is to have two thirds sky to one third land, or vice versa, but this is split halfway. The spiky seed heads show up nicely and there is subtle colour and texture in the bottom half of the photo. Sometimes I will choose portrait orientation but this was definitely best in landscape.

These are a few of my favourite red plants. Well petals not leaves. I love poppies and chuck in a few pelagoniums and fushias.
Photos from a couple of years ago. I’d have planted up a lot of annuals by now but I have had bigger bills to pay, and having problems with shaking and weaker muscles means I cannot shift flowerpots around like I used to. I do hope my health improves. I have to rely on (argue with) hubby to move things about. Anyway I’ll post photos once I’m satisfied with what it looks like.
