Digitally

How has technology changed your job?

My ‘job’ isn’t really one, I don’t make sufficient money to make it worthwhile so I guess it’s more like a hobby. But as digital technology has improved I have been able to include it more into my art and mark making.

This image started as a digital drawing in Artrage. I then ran it through filters on the photodirector app several times which came up with this image of a tree. I like being free to experiment with art and seeing what results.

Blue bird

A strange little doodle of a blue coloured bird, just experimental play with the Artrage app. It not exactly exciting, I just wanted to try an get an idea down of what a bird would look like. I’ve got several criticisms, the neck is probably too short, the tail too long and basically the colour is far too bright. It’s like the bird has had a can of paint poured over it! But I’ll call it done.

Catty

I realised I haven’t doodled much lately. I guess I’ve been too busy and distracted. So today I drew this cat in the Artrage app on my phone. It’s meant to be a tabby cat with grey black and white fur. I didn’t use the metallic option at all so the paler colours show up better than they would if I had. It’s like everything else, you learn what works for you.

Doodled face

Just doodling, keeping my hands busy. I might find something to paint but I’m going to give up  my studio at Spode as I can no longer afford it. I’m sad because it feels like quitting and I  don’t want to but you can only do what you can do. I’m going to try and find a cheaper studio. In the meantime I have a lot of art work that I hope I can get sold. It’s time I had a sale. We will see what happens.

A Dragon for Chinese New Year

Just a sketch of a dragon using Artrage app. I tried to use metallic paints to give it a sheen. I have to say it didn’t turn out as neat as I would have liked but I’m using a stylus instead of my finger. It’s controllable but in fact I’m not used to using it that often. Anyway enjoy Chinese new year. X

Abstract dragon

I see the yellow spiral as an eye, the greens emphasise the shape. This could be a garden from above. A dragons head?

There is a ground sculpture called Northumberlandia in the Northeast of England in the county of Northumberland. It’s laid out as a figure of a woman in a celtic form and built up in hills which you could do with this image, the orange and yellows could be paths. This is an Artrage app sketch.
