Muraling again…

I did more to the mural today, climbing up and down some steps to get up to the top of it. I’m tired but happy with it so far. I’ve toned down some purple I’d added to it and made it more grey. This was because I was trying to add colour to it but was a bit overwhelming. Once I’ve finished blocking in the background I will add reeds and leaves and other details. I’ve got some iridescent white which I’m going to use to add more sparkle to it. Once it’s finished it’s going to have a glaze over it to protect it.

May get it finished by next week.

At Etruria Artists this morning.

Four of us visited the Warehouse at Etruria today, its by the summit lock 40 on the Trent and Mersey canal, near Etruria Industrial museum, Stoke-on-Trent.

The subject was Easter Island heads, and I decided to try and work out how to slab build it, which is why I did a drawing of it first. Then because we decided to do smaller statues we decided to carve the clay instead. The results are shown in the middle pictures. Finally I talked to my friend Robert, who is a Potter and leader of the group. He explained that we should have glued bits on with slip if we wanted the pieces firing.

The final photo is one of my hubby’s drawings in response to the ideas. I liked what he was doing and took a photo. He explained he was working on ideas from Barbara Hepworth.

Easter Island head

I’ve been asked to maybe do some pottery with a group at the warehouse at Etruria Industrial museum this morning. I’ve tried to do a digital sketch of one and I will look at photos of them. I can see how to make a slab built pot by rolling sheets of clay out and sticking them together with a bit of slip (clay and water). The only problem will be to get the air out of the clay so if it is fired it doesn’t explode in the kiln my friend has. Wish me luck. I think we will try and draw it first.

Another craft stall

_20191127_235948If you are in Longport on Saturday or Sunday (30th November, 1st December,) why not call round to the Waiting Room gallery. They are holding Christmas workshops and I will be there with my stall. I’m still doing new tiny paintings for decorations on your Christmas tree, or small paintings, with lots of ideas.

Might see you there?

Memory of my favourite cat.

I painted this several years ago. She was my favorite cat. Always sitting behind the weeping fig at the top of the stairs. I painted her a couple of years before she passed away. I know it’s a long time ago because the fig grew to be about six foot high when we finally got rid of it. It’s one of very few paintings I had framed, because it was for myself. I generally don’t put them on as people can then choose what they want.

She was a lovely friendly cat, and very clever. Much loved.

Mural day

I’ve been asked to paint a mural of some geese in a friends house. It’s a small space and on two walls. About eight feet high by about ten wide?

I spent the afternoon painting. Got to go back and carry on with it later in the week. Then I went out and went to a yoga group, then singing. Got back shattered.

I’m glad I said yes to doing the mural.

This is my painting.

Continuing the point about copyright, this is my painting of the Burslem witch, Molly Leigh.

Our local TV programme, Midlands today used the image of the elderly woman, (I based it on a painting by Theodore Gericault, of an elderly French peasant woman). I emailed them twice to point out it was my mural, but have not had any response back.

Last Friday I was interviewed by the Sentinel newspaper about this and a photo of my Burslem riot painting that the paper had used without crediting me. I don’t know when it’s du to be published, do it might already have come out.

Anyway. I keep painting.

Yesterday was a nothing day

DSC_2344_optimized (3)

Like an empty room, not needing tidying. A day that passed quickly, where I let time flow.

Why? I was painting, finishing, working, trying to complete art. Time passed in an empty way, flowed from the top of a waterfall to the base, in mid air, then crashing into the reality of getting something done, finished.

But then I went and did choir practice after I’d painted, so no time to come here. The day was asking fast then… After dark, but after choir, shopping, after shopping, cooking and eating.

The day flew past, then a gentle sleep….

I looked up and it was after midnight. The only things posted here were the day before. My days published statistic was about 157 days continuous publishing. I think it will be back to zero…. Ho hum…. But a day off the computer, a real bonus…

Lake View.

This is a painting I did from a photo last year. It was in a magazine but I didn’t see who the photographer was. This is one of the things I worry about when using images like this. If I complain about copyright then how can I use others work? But if there is no credit on it can I still use it? That’s why I try and create original art, but it’s not easy. I write ‘after an image or photo by…’ on paintings when I know who they are by….

There are many problems with this. Is there any information anyone can tell me about this I would appreciate it.
