Five portraits, one five minutes and the other four are ten minute ones. Black calligraphy pen on cartridge paper. The lighting isn’t good so the paper looks a bit grey. People provided objects to add to the portraits. I really enjoy these sessions.
New paintings and regular art updates.

Today my copy of Falmouth Zine arrived. Its the work of myself and fellow students, we all made self portraits using cut up pieces of monoprint. Then it was Riso printed and we now have the result.
Yes my self portrait looks nothing like me, but it was fun and experimental, and I learnt about making my own monoprint and how a Riso printer works, so yes it was worth having a go!

Smiling cloud faces, view of Snowdonia, Wales, UK , June I think, 2019. Wishing I was there now. We haven’t been able to visit for over a year because of Covid…I saw this again today and remembered how enjoyable it was just travelling, exploring, driving down roads I’d never been down before. I don’t mind not driving much, but I’d like to go to a few nice places again….

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was over… Today’s walk led us under this hawthorn tree that was growing over the road. Its in Hartshill on the way up to Queens Road. Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

Walked around our local streets on today’s walk and saw these massive potholes! It looks like they are due to be filled in but how on earth did they get this big in the first place?
I’ve been watching video of the latest Mars exploration and these look bigger than some of the craters there!
If you hit one of these at normal speed I think that you would damage your suspension in a car, and it could make a bike wheel collapse. Talk about an accident waiting to happen.
I know these are nothing in the scheme of things, just a bit surprising.

OK, this was a doodle for a project in one of the weeks at college. We had five words chosen for us and had to create characters and situations for them to be in.
Mine were: copper, glasses, bedroom, sarcastic and star.
I’d made a crown earlier in the year for a virtual panto I was in. It was made of card covered in holographic stars. I finished the work, but now we are doing a project on creating a map. I was looking back on previous work and found this. It’s a map I think? It’s not what I’m doing for the project but it made me think about what a map is.
I would define a map as:
Describing a place pictorially with images, or using sound to give directions.
It can be imagined or realistic. Using icons or symbols to describe objects within the map. Indications of pathways or roads, ways to navigate the area. And rules to show whether places are only accessible in a certain way. Exits and entrances. Also is the map two or three dimensional, how is that represented. Lots to think about.

When you open up Facebook you don’t expect to hear that a friend has passed away. Someone who I admired. A good artist and a compassionate and sensitive man.
I guess I would rather find out than not know at all. Waiting to see if he would post new art, or a post about how he was feeling. He went missing for a couple of months about two years ago. He eventually turned up and everything turned out OK.
Now, I don’t know. I guess I’m glad I met him on a website and saw his art, he lived in a different country so we were never going to meet up. But that doesn’t matter, he was a very good artist and was a thoughtful person.
I lost another friend in a similar way last year. This was a woman from overseas. Another artist.
The internet allows people who would never normally meet to find each other. At least I’ve found out what has happened. Feeling very sad.

I miss rainclouds, full of dark grey promise. We’ve had a few weeks of dry weather and apart from a few spots of rain this morning we’ve had nothing. With that and the cold, frosty mornings, it’s taking a while for the plants to grow. We have a few seedlings, but when I went to a garden nursery they had hardly any perennial plants ready for growing on. I for one am hoping for rain soon.

Bursting from branches
Pink and effervescent.

Oh I used to run past this tree. I was convinced as a child that it was inhabited by a ghost. As part of this terms college work we had to remember some landscape from our childhood and this was what I thought of.
I’ve probably missed out trees and I can’t remember if there were houses in the background. But it will remain with me forever!
