Too many books?

Featuring a painting by my artist friend Charlie Walker. The other, little yellow rose, is one of mine.

Who needs insulation when you have lots of books? Well I only have them lining one wall so I guess we do. I did start counting them once, but when I got to 1000 I gave up. Some of them are unreachable because they are too high up. I sometimes get the step ladders out if I notice one I’d like to read again. I have my favourites, including sci-fi and fantasy, biography and science books. I’m about to start a book about the history of Jodrell Bank Radio telescope.

There are books by Carl Sagan, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C Clarke that I like. I also enjoy books by Terry Pratchett. I think that’s because I read some them when I was at school so I have that memory ingrained in me. I remember reading Arthur C Clarke Dolphin Island when I was young. It enthralled me. I read it again recently but it had lost some of its magic. I guess some of the fantastic things he talked about dont seem as amazing in the modern world….

Inside the warehouse…

While covid has been happening the warehouse where we used to hold our Etruria art group on a Thursday morning has been transformed. The blue walls have been painted white and a disabled toilet has been added, with a little kitchen bay in the main room. Hopefully they will fix the roof as there are several loose tiles.

Unfortunately there may be a problem with the art group continuing to use it. Perhaps pottery is too messy? We have yet to hear if we will be allowed to go back after the lockdowns end. We live in hope. It would be good to go back there and make use of it again.

Baubles

Last year’s tiny paintings that I did of Christmas baubles. I sold them at a Christmas craft fair. I added ribbons and painted the backs of them black so they could be hung off Christmas trees. People seemed to like them and I sold three of them. I wish I could be doing the same this year. It was pleasant meeting new people, chatting, enjoying the spirit of the season. Not this year though. So I shall try and remember the good times and hope they come again next year. X

Walking

I like a wooded track to walk along, away from roads and fumes, especially if its a link between two places I want to get to and from. But strangely I don’t like to walk in woodland. I worry I will get lost. I’ve walked around some places and lost track of where we were. I even tried looking for the moss on the side of the trees to see if I could decide which way was north! Luckily the sun came out so I could tell which way was west, then I saw a way marker! I can’t imagine going to somewhere in a wood in the countryside and finding my way out! You can tell I’m nervous of it because of the number of exclamation marks I’ve used!

But a gentle walk along a wooded path in the town? That’s fine… Funny how different things affect different people.

Drawing to scale

Oh I wish I’d done technical drawing at school. I’d know how to draw perfect circles and how to indicate cross sections. Yes I can draw around things, like this watch, but the line is very wobbly, then I wanted to draw an inner circle, but again its approximately a circle….. I’m a bit disappointed to be honest. I must find out if there is a particular template I can buy. If I’m going to learn, I need the right equipment. Another thing I need to invest in, and maybe an illustrated guide to technical drawing?

Cat to vet

My boy cat has another bald spot. Turns out it may be an allergy. I took his buster collar off a week ago because his skin had got better. But over the last couple if days he’s been washing and licking more. It’s probably because the abandoned cat that comes in for an hour at night might have bought some ‘little friends’ in with him… I’m going to get our boy some more treatment and another spray. It’s worrying, because we have too much stuff in the house with all my art supplies and things. Maybe I haven’t done a good enough spray? None of my other cats have had problems in the past so all this is new to me. I’m hoping it can be sorted out soon…..

Sad today

Oh, I don’t know what is wrong with me, I just feel sad. I’m fed up with things, the cat has got another appointment at the vets. I think I need to see them too! My shoulder aches, although the exercises I’m doing really are helping. I just want to talk to someone new, or an old friend, but I don’t want to bother them with my worries. I find myself staying indoors, keeping myself to myself, ignoring my hubby who comes up with grandiose ideas and I can’t keep up with him. Anyway enough moaning… Take care everyone. Have a good weekend.

Fog, what Fog?

It was meant to be foggy this morning. I was looking forward to going out to take photos in the mist… But it didn’t arrive! Instead I took an ‘atmospheric’ photo of the cat on the windowledge. There’s a teatowel on the wooden chest that I use when I’m painting.

I’ve seen lots of misty photos over the last few days, so I hope I’ll be able to get some interesting images… We shall see.
