Horses loose

I was looking out of our window and I saw two grey horses, unaccompanied walk past. They were walking in traffic and towards the main road. I pointed it out to hubby who went out to try and direct them while I watched and rang the police. He managed to get them across the road to the local vets, where some of the nurses came out to help. In the meantime I was explaining where it was happening to the police when the owner of the horses arrived. She explained that the farrier who had been shoeing the horses had left the gate open and they had got out. I went to get my phone to take a picture but they were halfway up the hill when I got back out. It was great that neither of them was injured.

Wall

Damp old farm wall, just down the road. Ideal for a housing development apparently. I really want it to be restored. To keep the building. To keep the heritage of the little village it is in.

Most of all though, I love the patina of it. How wet must it be on the other side to create this tide mark of water and lichen, moss and salts. I love it, I might paint it!

Walking again

Up the hill round the corner, down the other side, urban jungle, walking through terraced houses and past the church. Over into a housing estate… It might be good to go further, but I’m not allowed.

I still want to walk along a beach, water lapping the shore. The sound of water trickling through pebbles, sand and shells.

Buying sticks of rock, fish and chips, a drink of bitter shandy. Seagulls trying to steal your ice-cream.

I can dream!

Remember . not , for the decimal point…..

Oops. I don’t think I walked 207 miles today, schoolgirl mistake..

It’s like a probe that was sent to Mars a few years ago. They failed to convert distances from Kilometers to Miles (or the other way round). The robe crashed, no matter what you do there will always be human error.

So if I add up all my miles over this challenge I’m hoping it will take me well over 207…we will see. X

Signs and signifiers

Today we were looking at the meanings of illustrations and signs, whether they are iconic (cat mug) a symbol (swimming badge?) or another option that I can’t remember! I get a bit tied up with these ideas, I will get it, I know, but just trying to explain it makes my head hurt.

Anyway it’s surprising how much illustration there is around us. My favourite is the Ludford Ginger bottle. What had the train got to do with it?

Old building

She walked by the old building in the twilight, the boarded windows stared blindly at her. She just needed to get past the front of the house and she would be into the no man’s land. Then one hundred yards, and she would be out of the shattered city. How had she managed to get this far safely? The invasion had attacked the cities a week ago. She had evaded them by moving in the dusk and dark.

Silently she stepped forward, quietly she looked round the corner. She was facing an alien guard. It wasn’t looking her way! Bending low, she sidled slowly across the glass strewn ground. Now to make a run for it……

Shibboleth

shibboleth
/ˈʃɪbəlɛθ/
noun
  1. a custom, principle, or belief distinguishing a particular class or group of people, especially a long-standing one regarded as outmoded or no longer important.
“the majority, under the influence of vague nineteenth-century shibboleths, understood him to be associating himself with the doctrine that every nation has a right to be a sovereign state”

My hubby used this word, so I asked him what it meant. He said something vague then said ‘look it up, I’m not sure’ so I did!

I’m not sure I’d ever dare use a word like that!
