Banana, custard and chocolate?

It looks weird, but it was tasty. I made up some custard powder, I use sweetner and semi skimmed milk to make it. Once it’s boiled up and thickened I just pour it over the chopped banana. But as an extra treat I added a large square of dark, low sugar (less than 5%) on top of the banana before I poured the custard. The heat made it melt. I could have been artistic with the swirls, but messy tastes nice too!

Busy

I’m striving to finish my college essay. I’m two thirds of the way through and fighting with the ideas of semiotics, signs and signifies, interpretants, other words that fly over my head! I’m trying to tie it all together into a coherent whole. My brain hurts but I have till Thursday to finish it. So if I’m not around… Well you will know why!

Being polite

Have you ever heard the phrase ‘I was dragged up to be polite’?

But I think I was taught to be polite from an early age. Things like being told not to answer back, don’t speak until you’re spoken to, children should be seen and not heard. In some ways those are very old fashioned values, but then I was born decades ago. I was the child of parents born in the 1920’s a different era. Me before Thatchers children were born, my parents before Churchill.

Politeness is important to me. Caring about things, being or trying to be aware of things, but sometimes I don’t notice. I don’t always pick up on what has happened, but at least I have politeness to fall back on. Politeness and politics must be verbally linked. Police is to do with being of the people, perhaps polite has the same root?

Watering fairy

She nipped out of the fronds of flowers and grabbed a watering can. She had seen the pansies were wilting from lack of water. Strong little hands held the can and dipped it into the water. Then wings flapped furiously as she lifted it up. Along the gardens length, to the tiny purple flowers. A good soak of water and their nodding heads rose again. The fairy decided to keep watering the plants all summer so they would be OK. That summer the blooms were more fantastic than ever.

Yellow cat!

Yowl! I have a metal cat hanging in the garden, I was going to put a small plant in his mouth but I forgot. Yellow and scared? Frightened? Amazed? He’s certainly got an expressive face. I don’t know how long he will last though, he’s going a little rusty inside. Maybe he’s meant to hold a candle or tea light.h

Was a birthday present and I’ve had him about five years so he’s lasted well. I think the photo came our clearly.

Will the Leopard reopen?

In about 2006 and 2007 I painted several murals in the Arnold Bennett suite of the Leopard Hotel. It has appeared on Britain’s most Haunted on TV and until a couple of years ago was still open. Now no one seems to know what is happening with it. I’m sure it still needs a lot of work doing on it. No doubt my murals will get painted over if it is refurbished. It’s sad, because for a few years the place thrived. But there was also bad luck there. I wish things coukd be better for it. X
