Brown bear

I drew a splodge of gold with my finger because my gold glitter paint is drying out and the sponge I use has gone rock hard. I wondered what it looked like and decided a Brown Bear. I found an image on the net I could use and added the tree. I drew over it in black felt pen and black calligraphy pen to add shadow and detail.

My finger is covered in gold glitter now but I don’t mind. It turned out OK.

Weird idea…

This was weird, a friend on WhatsApp is trying to come up with a logo for his name that starts with a B and he had drawn letter B’s holding a pencil, so I suggested a Bee carrying a pencil and writing the letter B…. And it fits with today’s #bandofsketchers prompt which is ‘carried’. I might just leave this or I might work on it?

Digital drawing of Jazz

I was talking about digital art, about simple ideas to create interesting images. This is one of my old digital drawings I did years ago. Blocks of colour with added squiggles then drawn over the top with black, white and a few colours. Yes I did use different opacities but I think you coukd do something like this without them…

Tig, remembered

Tig was a stray cat we took in several years ago. I loved his black nose and chin. I used to draw him at sketchfu and this was the drawing I did of him after he died. He was very bright and got up to all sorts of mischief. Our outdoor cat could be his son! The similarities in looks and behaviour, even their thick shiny, glossy coats.i

I do like drawing cats. Most of them are black and white, but we once had a ginger cat and when I was a child I had a tortoiseshell cat. I have lots of paintings and drawings. Seeing this brings back fond memories.

Tired

Just a black and white sketch of a face which I then did a small edit on through the photodirector app.

Yes I am a bit tired. But this is more about trying to draw emotions without a reference image. I can see a lot of mistakes, particularly where I’ve mirrored the image. The nose does not sit right, the shading is wrong. But I like using cross hatching. I like thin pens. I don’t think its too bad.

Drawing waves

Imagined waves. I still haven’t been anywhere near the beach, but I’m imagining a sea whipped up by a storm. Tuesdays #bandofsketchers prompt was waves. I’ve been to the seaside during storms, but not big ones. I think this could have done with more foam, but it’s hard to draw with a 6b pencil and black ink pen.

Hayfever.

So much pollen my eyes smart and itch. The breeze is blowing and the grass is full grown. Sneezing and spluttering, breathing in dust. Allergens float in the air.

Rubbing my eyes till they are red. Enough smarting, so I take antihistamines, but it’s still bad. Sleep can help, eyes are protected when they are closed. Having to write short sentences between the tears. Rain is a friend, dampening the dust and pollen, washing it away down the drains.

Kirk and Spock

My favourite sci-fi characters. Captain Kirk and First Officer Spock from the 1960’s TV show ‘Star Trek’. I drew this at a website called Sketchfu which closed a few years ago. Even with the simple tools there I was able to draw them reasonably accurately. There were not that many episodes made and it only ran for three series. But it came back a few years later with follow up films and TV series. The franchise must have made a great deal of money for its backers x.
