#bandofsketchers prompt yesterday was ‘sweet’. I’ve been eating far too much ice cream recently. I used post it notes for the sauce and sprinkles and the tub, then shaded and drew with a fine line black ink pen. The shading was done with a pale green felt pen. This is meant to indicate soft ice cream, the stuff they sometimes call Mr Whippy!
Today’s college workshop, we had to create an image from random bits of things we had around us. I made a motorbike with mine! Can you see it?
Post it notes and bits of monoprinted paper, and a bit of maroon tissue paper as a bit of foliage. Is that a small white wheel at the front or a square orange wheel? Green handlebars, pink headlight. Black and white seat.
Today’s band of sketchers prompt is warning… So I drew something but it was wrong the traffic lights are in the middle of the road. .. So I turned it into another cartoon. Warning! Traffic light in wrong place! A bit bonkers today I know… Made with post it notes and felt pen.
I used to love apples, crisp and crunchy or sweet and soft in a pie with cream. I wonder why I’ve stopped buying them? Stopped seeing them? I see lots of soft fruit, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, bananas galore, oranges, peaches, even limes, but I don’t see many apples? Perhaps there has been a shortage of them? Maybe there were not many harvested in autumn.
Funny how you only miss things in a sudden feeling that there is something gone from life. I wonder if politics, brexit, not allowing as many foreign workers into our country, has had an effect on it. It feels like the old sayings ‘shooting yourself in the foot’ or ‘cutting off your nose to spite your face’? No doubt things will sort themselves out? I hope!
Sketch I did for Thursdays #bandofsketchers prompt ‘show’ which I didn’t have time to post. This shows two heavy horses. They were part of a team of four pulling a brewery cart. One of the events that happen at county shows. I think I’ve captured their characters.
Where to start a story? From experience? Imagination, or a bit of both?
This was my first panel in a 9-panel illustration. You may have seen it on another blog page. Where could this go? My idea was about the problem of hoarding in the present day, consumerism, the need to have objects to comfort you. But maybe it could have gone a different route. Perhaps she visits an antiques fair and finds an undiscovered painting or a jewel that has been thought of as trash. Maybe she goes to a secondhand shop and discovers a first edition book by H Ryder Haggard. Or adds some new kittens to her family.
Is she alone, does her collection cause a conflict with relatives. Has she got enough money to feed her collecting hobby? Where does she fit all of her belongings? She might have a lock up garage that is broken into causing despair when her family heirlooms go missing. Perhaps she meets a like minded collector or the Police investigate her for keeping stolen goods?
Maybe, even, it could be a murder mystery, a jeweled dagger is amongst the effects she receives following the death of a maiden aunt from Glastonbury? Why Glastonbury? Because I’ve always wanted to visit it!
