Fish from a batik workshop I was part of a couple of years ago. It was with an artist called Belinda Latimer. She moved away or I would have liked to do another one. The pictures round the side are by other people in the workshop. It’s great to let yourself do something new if you can.
View through a terraced house window with one of my husbands bike wheels hanging in the window. He used to repair bikes for a while. He was probably replacing some spokes or had the tyre and tube off to repair a puncture.
It might not be the prettiest photo but it documents a time and a place. Forty years ago! A real film camera. Photos with rounded corners. I think taken with an olympus trip, on iso 100 speed film. I have albums with real photos…
I’m not sure I’m keen on curved edges to my photos. It does look interesting but with the new WordPress block editor I’m not sure if you can move the shape around and change where the image is centered. I’ll keep on playing with it to learn how it works…
Learning to resize images to save file space. These are three sketches I’ve done over the last couple of days. The chimney at the Beehive pub, a dinner plate and an ornament.
I like drawing in black and white and using cross hatching to shade the images. I’m drawing every day and I don’t want to stop.
Today we actually got out to see the Boatband. They are a cajun band based in Stoke-on-Trent. They have played in Glastonbury and many laces around the UK.
Today they were playing outside the Beehive pub on Honeywall, Stoke-on-Trent. They played cheerful cajun and calypso music today. They tried to make a warm atmosphere out of a cold day. The pub landlady came out and gave us blankets to wrap round us! We stayed for a couple of hours with masks on except to drink and socially distanced. But it was great to see people I hadn’t seen for a year! Scary but good.
Walking up our hill there is a section of unadopted road that has a massive pothole. Someone has filled it in with old bricks and stones and bits of pottery shards. As I looked at it today I thought it had filled up with snow. But no, it was pink blossom nestled in the dips and dents. I reminded me of things floating in a river. I’ve taken this photo because it was an interesting juxtaposition of material, soft and hard, dark and light, natural and man made…
Mask I painted for Penkhull Mystery play in 2018? It was for a river spirit character. She danced around the stage on the village green in flowing blue and green robes. This is the drawing I did for today’s, #bandofsketchers prompt.
Finally had a short walk today! We went to Cherished Chimneys which is a shop that sells chimneys and pottery at Longport, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. and the Waiting Room gallery across the road in the same place. Then we walked round Westport lake, which is just half a mile away along the canal. We saw blossom and bluebells along the canal and round the lake. We avoided heavy clouds as we walked. I think it had rained heavily in Stoke as the path was soaking wet when we got home.
