Helicopter overhead

Stock photo

Something was happening. The whirring sound of a helicopter grew closer, then it was overhead, I was inside my house and didn’t know exactly where it was but it was very loud! Then three police cars, sirens blaring, drove up the street.

I decided not to go out and look, as I didn’t know if it was some sort of car chase and my front door opens directly onto the pavement and street. I’d just watched the news about speeding cars and I didn’t want to see a crash.

The Helicopter was circling overhead, but with a phone flat battery I couldn’t take a photo (usually helicopters here are transporting supplies or patients to the local hospital). The helicopter got very close and very loud which was a bit frightening. More police cars shot up the hill, what was going on? After about a quarter of an hour things calmed down. I used the excuse of going out to pick up my milk off the garden gate at the side of the house to see what was happening. What I saw about 50 to 100 yards up the hill were some police cars, blue lights flashing, on the street and more inside the yard of the local pottery factory. Something has clearly happened there. I guess I will have to wait for this afternoons or evenings news.

Just bark

Geometric shapes and peeling bark. This morning I went back to my Wednesday art group. I’ve really missed it. Something prompted me burst into song so I ended up singing a verse of “Summertime” which I think is from the opera “Porgy and Bess”,

On the way out I saw this tree with the angles and muted colours in the background. I do wonder what tree it is, it looks like a birch, but too white to be a silver birch plus the bark is peeling off it?

Storm Eowyn

Red warnings over Ireland and Scotland today for strong winds. Some gusts were over 100 miles an hour. Almost a million houses are without power over Northern Ireland and Eire, and the storm is moving across to Scotland.

Amber warnings for North Wales and the North of England. The rest has had yellow warnings.

I woke this morning to the wind blowing through the cat flaps, seeking the gaps around the kitchen window, and whistling round the door. The bare skeletons of the trees were rattling their branches together. I think the birds were hunkering down in the bushes. Next door has a scaffolding platform in their yard while they work on the roof and walls. That shivered and shuddered as strong gusts blew past it. I was worried it would blow into my yard. The cats have been out but quickly rushed back in.

People were warned not to travel and trees have been uprooted and structures damaged. There has also been flooding in costal areas. This is one of the worst storms recently, but they are getting more frequent.

But the large country to the West of us has a new president that does not believe there is a problem. He wants more oil and gas development.

He is the reason for a lot of hot air.

He’s back!

The yard my cat was in. They clearly were trying to look after him. I’ve been round and left a note explaining he needs medication daily for the abscess under his chin. Left my number. When I checked where the yard is today I found there is a gate we could have gone through. What do people think about me going in and grabbing him if he goes there again? The other two photos are of him in his carrier while I was waiting to see the vet. He’s eating and drinking but very quiet. (last photo, asleep).

Mirror.

Seen today, a mirror in a shop, reflected branches. And the bevelled edge was shining with the spectrum. I had walked to the shop and on the way it poured with rain. The sun broke through behind me and I took a photo of a rainbow. But the camera did not save the image because I turned my phone off too quickly. So when I saw a similar effect in the bevelled edges I tried to capture those colours. Lots of things inspire me x
