Digital sketch. What is she thinking? Who has she left behind. She had thought about staying in the world of men but had seen wisdom and realised that it could not work.
It’s funny how things appear in your mind and what you end up doodling. I was playing with an idea of someone looking back over their shoulder after seeing an image on the TV.
Various problems with this but it’s nice enough.
Illustration by me. I keep forgetting to say that the illustrations in this blog are generally mine. If I use anything else it is free webart, but that doesn’t happen very often.
This drawing looks back at the old year and forward to the future. It’s done in a sketcher app I downloaded off the Internet. One face is lined. Cracks are appearing in her face. Full of colour and interest. Of memories and thoughts. Of worry and relief. The other is young and pale. The flowers of spring surround her. She is looking out to the future but without expression. The old face knows what has happened, the new does not know what to expect yet.
The world turns….
Slinging a pattern on here today because my brain is a bit fried with this cold and I was looking through some old digital sketches and I liked the colours in this.
I don’t know why, but spirals are the main shape that make me happy. Those and waves like those on the Japanese prints of the sea near Mount Fuji.
Spirals are amazing, found in galaxies and whirlpools, tornados and hurricanes. Waters spouts, spiralling growth of climbing plants. Water spiralling down a plug hole… Even the double helix of DNA.
Patterns are interesting, makes life interesting too.
It’s good to look back at old drawings as the days grow colder and shorter. Remembering warmth and colour, the view from the cafe there, then a gentle walk round the lake. Watching the place mature over the years, the trees have grown up so tall. Now Staffordshire wildlife have taken over running the site there has been a programme instigated to improve the area and make it more wildlife friendly. I saw four cormorants perched on a man made island there a couple of months ago. I thought these birds were costal, but maybe they are coming inland like gulls.
Must visit again in the near future, maybe if it snows…. Then I can re draw this scene…

Firstly, I’m not a garden designer, but I just wanted to talk about putting ideas down either on paper or digitally. I’m using my sketch app on my phone to work something out. It’s a bit scruffy but gives you an idea. I’ve used a short oblong because it’s approximately the shape of our garden. I’ve drawn in some of the trees using the elipse tool. Then marked in possible paths using a ruler tool for straight lines. Then filled in with a spray tool. I’ve added a blue patch to indicate a pool and sprayed in colour where I want flowers. As there are a lot of trees I’ve shifted the flowers over away from shade although you can get woodland flowers to cover the ground below the trees.
Basically it’s worth doing a drawing if you can to get an idea of what you want. Also work out the compass points. Then you will know where plants will do their best.
This is a shop just over the road from the waiting room gallery. They sell ancient and modern chimneys, teapots, pottery and other collectables. Today they had a craft fair and they had a lot more stalls than us. Including lovely jewellery, art, fabric, illustrations and mulled wine and minced pies..! They also had santa Claus. I’m amazed that anyone came over and bought from us.
Urban Sketchers, Stoke-on-Trent had a get together and drew pictures of what was happening and what the place looked like. Unfortunately my photos had a reddish shade to them. I’ve tried to correct it on photo editor but it didn’t really work. I want to post better photos but I ve lost my sketchbook

Take an abstract doodle and reimagine it as a mug design.
I just sketched the black in quickly but I could see this printed on a mug. It’s brightly coloured, a real pop of pattern.
Somehow I’ve got to start getting my art work printed. I think that would be a way forward with my pictures. I’ve had a few enquiries from people recently.
The sea is rising
The rain comes in mountains now.
Falling so fast its like a bomb.
Wet feet
Now wet knees,
Up to my thighs…
We walked once from Robin Hoods Bay
To Boggle Hole.
On the North East Coast
Of Yorkshire.
The sea came in
Along the rocks.
It was faster than us.
He was up to his chest,
I was up to my neck
When we waded out
Of the North Sea.
That was twenty years ago.
Now you only have to look at a cloud
And you are covered, soaked, flooded.
Where will it end?
Up a creek without a paddle?
I can’t get over the last months drawing challenge so I’ve started a drawing a day in a circle for November.
The first one was just a car outside our house. Not very exciting. What I think I will do is post the pictures every week or so rather than individual ones.
This made me laugh though, my hubby likes having cool feet. He probably won’t wear shoes till December. I think he’s odd but it’s his choice.
