How is it Thursday?
Yesterday was Tuesday
Wasn’t it?
I was calm on Tuesday

Knowing I had Wednesday
To prepare….
And rest
But now it’s really
Thursday!
And tomorrow’s Friday
Really!
How?
(I accused my friend
Of being confused
About the day
Yesterday!)
My mind flits
From one thought to another
Over the same land
At different stages of coherence.
Dreams of silky seas
That were not mine
Or high mountain peaks
All is enfolded within.
Pictures taken by others
Hidden folds and valleys
Corrugations of brain.
Dream travel can be overwhelming
Or limited to a single room
Hidden meaning or memory.
Then the cotton thread snaps
And you wake,
To grey darkness
Stuck back in reality
Only a thin film away
But so far
From dream country.
Snoozin’ on my sisters blankets
But he likes to sleep on bags
A compromise of yarn
And a linen surface.
Paw over nose, keeping light out
Dreaming of who knows what?
Comfy and warm,
How many hours
Will he snooze?
Learn to shut the door cat!
I feed you
And you get fat!
You stick in the cat flap..
Like a mouse in a humane trap!
Your nose and paws
Easily open a door..
But you don’t shut them
You need more
An opposable thumb!
Fished out of the cupboard
An old candle holder
It had a Christmas wreath
But now it will suffice
To light the room
If we have a power failure.
I have an old candle
Just remind me
Not to burn it
At both ends….

Wool mouse tails
Catnip chews
Kitten paws
Bows and ribbons
Then crash…
Baubles fall
Off the tree
The cats are chasing
Each other

Me!

We hear snow is coming
It’s wet outside
Falling on frozen ground
One large fluffy snowflake
Fluttered past the kitchen window
A fleet footed hexagonal marvel
Precursor to a flurry?
Who knows
White Christmas?
Too soon to know
Flitting across the sky?
Santa’s sleigh gliding through
White whimseys of snow…
Snow showers in the North
Will the winter spring forth?
Chilling beasts bones
Ice hardened like stones
Frost and fog lingering cold
Into cracked pavements old
People coughing and spluttering
Runny noses now sniffing.
Sleet and snow are coming near
But only in coastal areas, not here
We will get mist and ice instead..
Well that’s what the weather man said…

No point in pretending
That I love the game
I understand the offside rule
I can explain it
But why should I?
I admired England’s Women
Playing in the European Cup
That was refreshing.
But Premier league?
Expensive, over hyped, boring,
Is my opinion.
And the World Cup venue?
Inequality and slave labour?
A Man’s paradise
Where women are second class
Rainbows are rebuked
Sports washing is preventing
Real freedoms.
