Long day, almost forgot to blog…

This morning the neighbour was hammering again but I ignored him, I had an appointment with the optician. I decided to walk the few hundred yards as want to try and get a bit fitter. As it was it took me about 25 minutes to walk 800 yards…. I’m just getting more unsteady and it’s a vicious circle of pain and shaking with the Parkinsons.

To the opticians, as I thought my cataracts are getting worse, he agreed, but that at least means I might be able to get one eye operated on.

I picked up a few groceries on the way home, enough for one bag. I needed some vegetables and porridge. Then home slowly in the sunshine.

When I got in I decided to pay for my garden waste collection. I tried ringing the council but got automatic voice messages explaining that I would have to pay online and no one would personally take my call. After feeling frustrated I decided to text my local councillor. That’s hit and miss as I have to spell check everything because I don’t always hit the right keys. This was asking if I could ring another number and get a real person!

Finally I tried the council number again. I chose a different option and a man answered. He put me through to the waste department and I got a real person, a woman to speak to. She asked if I could get a relative to pay, but one is dead, another lives 80 or 90 miles away and the other one is abroad. I could go down to the library she said. I explained I had already been to town and was tired out (my car was blocked in or perhaps I could have driven). Eventually it got through to her that I wasn’t going to be able to do it so after speaking to a manager she took the payment over the phone. Looking back I could have been nicer but I was tired and flustered. I she told me to use my key pad on my phone to type in some numbers and I didn’t realise she meant the phone keypad, I was looking for a qwerty keyboard! I did apologise for taking up her time.

So then I fell asleep and dozed for a while. It’s taken me a while to get this down on my phone keypad. I don’t normally have the energy to do so much in one day, my feet and ankles ache and I’m feeling a bit grumpy!

Slept well last night

My phone isn’t pinging and trilling as much now my Internet is down. I always take my phone upstairs incase of an emergency, but I frequently will watch a few videos before I sleep. Last night no noises, no pings. I slept well. I don’t know if it’s a real effect because I was really tired. I woke up at 7am but went back to sleep and I just woke up from a dream of someone knocking on the front door.

I’ve probably slept too much but I’m glad I got it. And because I wasn’t constantly checking my phone it made my decision to sleep so much easier. I hope the same happens tonight. Maybe you don’t realise you have 4 unless you actually put 2 and 2 together.

Watching videos

I’ve fallen into a bad habit, I’ve started to watch a lot of Facebook videos, one after the other. My phone keeps showing me hairdressing videos, five minute crafts, films about Agate, car crashes, American politics, police stopping cars. The trouble is its easier to watch one after the other rather than whole TV shows. Part of it is because hubby likes watching train and war films. I get bored by whether the train is running on narrow or standard gauge or even broad gauge. I don’t want to know the difference between tanks and armoured cars. I don’t want to know which general won what battle. So the phone videos have increased, which I think might be impacting on my arm problems. I don’t think I’m addicted, but it’s keeping my mind off things….

Too much typing

The last few days have been painful. My shaking arm is aching a lot more. I think it’s because it’s very tense, but also I’ve been feeling ill so I’ve been using my phone to look at various websites and watching my phone screen to look at videos a lot more. Why doesn’t your brain correlate things? The pain is worse when I hold or support my phone. Perhaps I should put the darned thing down a bit more often. It distracts me from being bored, but I it’s about time I started getting out and about more. Walking or reading books seem the best options.

13 % battery

Now it’s 12%, why does the battery power drop so fast when it gets to 15%? It’s annoying, I want to write more but the charge is now 11%. Maybe it’s time for a new battery. I sometimes stand in the kitchen with my phone on charge, it’s quite cold in there so I don’t think I will tonight. I will just write this and stop for the night. Anyway it’s a strange and insignificant thing to write about. But I have had this phone for about four years. I don’t change them every five minutes like some people. I can’t afford to and also it’s a waste of resources. Whoops! 10%, goodnight!

Texting

The only bit of text on my phone

Texting, I hate it, trying to think of the right words, how to put feelings into what you say, without appearing abrupt or rude. Today I had a text and each answering phrase I wrote was edited four or five times. You can’t put nuance into texts. If I were a poet I could add different ideas and concepts to help make things more clear. But texting is generally short and simple. But also not always considered. At one stage I hit the thumbs up symbol accidentally that was not appropriate. I wish I could have deleted it. All I could say was sorry.

Clearing memories

WordPress keeps telling me my phone is full. I know! I keep trying to delete photos but it’s almost impossible. There are thousands of them. There’s lots of other things, I am not sure of half of what’s on here….

So I think I will have to buy more memory. Its funny how real memories are subsumed into a digital memory. If you don’t have a photo of it, it didn’t happen? Case in point, the recent death and funeral of the Queen. People have always recorded their lives throughout the ages, for example look at cave paintings. Then art throughout the ages, paintings for people who could pay, or sketches by people who had the means or ability to draw or paint. Then deguerreotypes (not sure of the spelling) became popular, painted portraits turned into slow motion photos that took time to take and heads had to be clamped in place to get a clear image. Box brownies, single lens reflex, eventually digital cameras, then phones which took a few photos. Now, the mobile phone is a hand held computer… But it still gets full.

The human mind can hold more information, but it’s not stored in a logical order. Links from the past suddenly reach out and grab your attention. Clearing a human brain of memory is not a good thing, and unless it happens through illness, age or injury, causing degradation of the brain structure, it is to be hoped that people can build memories (good or bad?), not lose them.

Phone home

Do you have to phone your phone to find it? You think you know where it is (in your handbag) but the cover is mostly black (even though you painted one side in gold and green) but after five minutes of fishing about for it you give up and try ringing it with another mobile or a land-line. Then….

It rings, you find it tucked impossibly into the lining of your handbag….

It goes straight to voicemail, and you upend your bag onto the sofa to find it.

It rings on the land-line handset, but not in your bag?! You go out to your car and check in the footwell and retrieve it…

Or

A stranger answers! But it’s a wrong number, you misdialled your number…

Or…

A stranger answers, yes it’s your number. No you can’t have your phone and all its digital information back! Eek!

Is it St Jude you pray to for finding lost objects?

All new urban sketchers challenge

_20200727_001925

Today’s challenge was media coverage. I didn’t have a paper and we haven’t seen the news so I decided to draw my phone with the news on it. But I couldn’t hold the phone and the sketch book so I balanced it on my arm. Then I drew the chair in the background. As I had the page of my sketchbook in my image I decided to duplicate the view again and then again. The parrot was on my tee shirt. You don’t realise how much you are moving around when you draw something like this, so my hand was in a differentvosition the second time I drew it, (and the third). I know it’s sketchy but I enjoyed the freedom and looseness of it
