Our old peonies didn’t flower this spring but a new peony has come into bloom and its a pale creamy pin. Is a bright spot in a very overgrown jungle! Hubby asked if it was a poppy and I thought it would be until he showed it to me. I don’t even remember planting it.
Gardening takes hard work and effort. I wish I had the energy to do more of it. The garden needs a serious hacking back. Bringing light back in and reducing shade… Its actually quite frightening.
#bandofsketchers prompt again… Today’s was Bridge/Bay. I did the white bridge at Etruria a few weeks ago, and a bay in Devon as part of my college work so I decided to draw a Bay horse instead. And why not. Felt pens again, two separate sets. I’m using ones that don’t bleed through to the other side of the paper as I don’t want to ruin other drawings…
Look at the size of the hand in the background, apparently stroking this cat? If it were really that size the cat would be as big as a pony! How does this work? The cat was very close to the camera and appears large, the hand is my hubby’s, he sat about a foot away and this is his right hand, furthest away from the cat. It’s a bit blurred because it’s at the back. This is called depth of field. If you think of a photo as being in layers from the closest layer to the lens going backwards in slices then the deepest part of the feild of view is at the back. If you have a shallow field only the things at a certain distance will be in focus. With a deep feild all or most of the photo will be in focus. This is most noticeable in the deep field view of the universe with the Hubble Space telescope. In the pictures from that you can keep zooming in to see more and more detail. Sorry for the non technical explanation!
What the heck is happening. Facebook keeps changing without any explanation or reasoning. Like the road you are driving on being moved to a different destination underneath you, and with no road signs to explain where you are going or why!
For instance, the menu at the top of the page has changed. The icon for groups has gone and instead there is marketplace. I have never and will never buy anything through that. However I am in lots of groups. I want to see the cloud appreciation society Facebook page or art groups I’m in… I’m having a moan here because I can’t actually see where to complain on my Facebook page!
This is another of the paintings I will be exhibiting/for sale in Stone. Its the derelict pottery in a nearby street. This is the main factory. To the left of it are two bottle ovens (which were used to fire pottery in the past). The process eventually became gas fired and many of the old kilns were closed and fell into ruins. I think only thirty two of the many hundreds that were in Stoke-on-Trent are now left, and only a few of those have been restored or repaired.
The reason I painted this is that I wanted to include the Falcon plaque on the end of the building. It actually depicts a Goss Hawk and I think the pottery is actually called the Goss Works. Others know the history better than I do.
Swallow falls, out in the wilds of mid Wales, on the way to Snowdonia near Beddgelert. Its a beautiful place. I’ve only visited it once about twenty years ago. This drawing was based on an Internet search as waterfalls was the prompt for #bandofsketchers on Tuesday.
This acrylic on canvas Poppy painting will be on sale in a shop in Stone, Staffordshire later in the week. I will try and get a few photos of our group display when everyone has hung their work.
Poppies come in lots of colours from large red, magenta, pink and white ones to smaller common poppies with red patals and black splodges in their centres. Also white and pink variations. Then there are the bright oranges of Californian poppies, orange and yellow Welsh poppies and blue, hymalayan poppies. Just gorgeous.
Our group of artists will be exhibiting work for sale in the Artisan Boutique on the High Street in Stone, Staffordshire from the start of June. Six of us are exhibiting there so we will all have a few pictures on display. It’s a great opportunity for us to get seen a bit further afield than usual. Wish us luck!
