New paintings and regular art updates.
I painted this a few years ago, it’s based on a poppy with a white centre. Most poppies have dark splodges in the centre. I think this looks more subtle. I’m toying with the idea of painting a mixture of both on a larger canvas? The background would be greens and straw coloured. Got to possibly block out or draw out their positions and then maybe add some forget-me-nots.
I feel guilty that I haven’t painted. I think I need to get my brushes out. Painting is my reason for being. It’s not negotiable, I have to paint, or at least draw. It will happen, I’m just not sure when. As the days get darker I always find it more difficult, especially painting under artificial light. By the way, I must have a hundred brushes around the house, I think they multiply when I’m not looking!
I was looking for an image to use for this post and found this. Where the light through prisms in the mobile in my window was casting rainbows on these brushes. I hope I don’t get artists block, sometimes I just can’t paint…
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was time. This is based on an idea that I first came up with on my MA. Time flies. I had lots of ideas including a bird, a butterfly and a dragonfly. This is some sort of magical, time travelling bird clock. I don’t think it’s a parrot and it’s very round!
Playing with colours and the image of an eye /sunset. Felt pen and black ink pen. I don’t quite know what I was doing with it, but it’s interesting. It started out as just an iris but I got a bit carried away.
I’m watching one of the Star wars movies so I thought I’d create a digital image that reflects the power of the film sets. Full of massive architectural shapes and dark power. This though is a plastic star we have hanging in the living room. I’ve duplicated and twisted it, then added texture and overlays of a lightning storm. Figuring out how to produce an interesting image takes my mind off things.
Using a simple filter can change images. I didn’t use the full strength of filter on this because the contorted lines it created was overwhelming. Instead I turned the filter down to about 40%, it gives the photo a bit more mystery I think…. Photodirector style number two filter.
Still a sea of flowers. The weather forecast says temperatures of 5°C tonight but I hope that the enclosed yard will protect the plants. I will see in the morning…..
The red flowers seem to be the main things that are still flowering. The yellow line at the top is our washing line, but it’s hard to dry clothes on it in the summer.
The flowers and plants will wilt and die over winter. Autumn is still slightly warm and they are clinging on, but I’ve noticed the delicate leaves are yellowing. I will try and get a few photos of the back yard before the hanging baskets die off. I might plant some of the more robust plants into the main garden to give them a bit more shelter to overwinter. I will miss the bright colours that have sparkled in the sunlight this summer. I know things probably will last till November. Early this year we still had a few flowers in January!
Taking my mind off things. I drew a series of spirals then filled them in with different colours usin metallic and non metallic felt pens. Using the colours in sector’s around the spirals in contrasting colours. It took me an hour, and gave me some relief to how I’m feeling.
#bandofsketchers prompt on Sunday Capital. But it was not a good day, and I don’t think the next days will be good either. But I decided to draw capital letters instead of choosing London or New York or something similar. I just wanted to use art to take my mind off things. X
