Today I have been painting…

Papier mache rock, for the pantomime. It is covered in newspaper and was painted with white emulsion. As I painted it the undercoat of white kept flaking off. I’ve painted it to look like the top is catching a ray of sunlight and the base is in shadow.

While I was doing this I also painted a flattened figure of one of  the policemen in the panto. He has been through a mangle and has been squashed flat. I had to do both sides but I didn’t do each side the same so I might have to repaint the back. Finally I painted clothes on a pretend washing machine. The door opens and a policeman climbs in. Then a child comes out in similar clothes, as if he has shrunk!

Anyway four hours of tiring but fun painting. It’s coming together x

Snake painting,

FB_IMG_1551398676341

Did this Snake and Ladder painting a couple of years ago. It was a bit of an experiment but someone liked it and had it straight away. I don’t remember all the paintings I’ve done, and I’m not the kind of person who makes a list, so there are pictures out there in the world that you might own….

Doodles from 2018. Unizeb and Pegazeb?

Sometimes I go a bit mad, these two were drawn in the sketcher free app, using the ribbon tool on it. I don’t use it very often anymore.

Horses are portrayed as mythical, but why not Zebras? The blue/turquoise make a good background. With the pens set to make a pattern like wirework. I wanted something dramatic and interesting.

Painting mugs

At Etruria Artists today we painted mugs, they were blank white mugs and we used on glaze paints that stay the same colour when they are heated. The most exciting thing is that they can be heated in an ordinary domestic oven. They have to be dried for twenty four hours, then heated at 150°C or gas mark 2 for 35 minutes to bake the colours in.

The outside photo is lock 40 on the Trent and Mersey canal. It was a beautiful morning, bright and sunny. I really do prefer coming to Etruria Artists ‘hands on Art’ at the Warehouse next to the lock in the morning rather than the evening. It is on from 10am to 12 noon if anyone wants to come along.

Necklace

I thought I would post an old picture of one of my necklaces from my Facebook memories. I made the glass cabochon at a glass workshop with someone called Angela Ashton. She has moved away and I would like to find somewhere else to do this. The wire weaving is by my friend, I need to chase her to try and get some pieces back off her, but I’ve been preoccupied and keep forgetting to contact her. I don’t think it’s anything to do with my age, but when you are busy with other responsibilities it’s hard to keep on track.

Sometimes I just wish for freedom to be myself, and sometimes I feel I’m using it as an excuse not to do things.

Maybe I can pull things back together soon. I need to escape my cocoon and be a butterfly.

At Art Lunch, February.

Art lunches are happening once a month now. While I was there I drew a couple of visitors, my teacup and the tiny teapot that went with it, and also the view out of the kitchen of my friends house.

Art lunch is the opportunity for local artists and creative people to get together and talk about their art and network, or maybe just chat and relax.

Had a lovely time. X

Thinking about Art

FB_IMG_1579662505489

I just posted this as a comment on a friends page… “I always feel I could do better when I’ve finished a painting, I look at the mistakes not the good bits….”

That made me think, is that why I paint, draw, and create?

Tomorrow I’m going to another friends, she is running an art lunch once a month. I’m hoping I can draw some inspiration to work out what I’m doing next. I have let things slide in January, now I need to try and make more of an effort….

Spock drawing

IMG_20200131_172829_486

A few years ago I was on a website called Sketchfu which eventually closed

It had very simple tools to draw with but I enjoyed drawing all sorts of portraits, including Lord of the Rings characters. I put a lot of them on here a year ago. But my favourite is Spock from the original Star Trek series. He was not easy to draw but I think I got a good representation. The little pink face in the background was the icon for Sketchfu. I do miss it. It was a great site but it was difficult to communicate with the site owners even though I was a Moderator on there. I can’t believe how long it is since it closed.

Jupiter Blue

FB_IMG_1580173232268

Would you buy a painting of one of the poles of Jupiter? I’ve done a few paintings os astronomical objects. This is from a photo from the Juno probe a few years ago. I’m thinking if doing a ainting of Pluto’s heart. But although I love it I wonder if anyone out there is actually interested. Maybe I’m too interested in tech. I can’t help it though.

It’s not easy to hand paint these images, it takes ages to blend the colours and build them up. Then you have to make sure it’s accurate, although I don’t measure everything exactly. I can’t compete with photography but I do try my best. Anyway this is a large acrylic on canvas and it is for sale.

Shattered

I’m only showing you a bit of sky and some rocks I painted today as the scenery for the panto is secret. Basically I painted a desert. I had help with the sky (the black is a short curtain above the scenery). I’m too short to reach the top of the scenery. I am absolutely shattered now. 2.30pm to 6pm!i know I paint fast but that’s ridiculous….. About ten foot tall by 30 to 40 foot wide. I will publish the full image when the pantomime is over. Its thin acrylic paint on flat boards.
