Sewing – a good skill

OK so I am not skilled at sewing but I can repair and mend things. I’ve also done a couple of cross stitch things (just don’t look at the back). I don’t do sewing machines, I couldn’t get the hand of them, and the one skirt I made at school had a wobbly hem! But if a button falls off or I lose a bit of weight I can take things in.

Why is sewing good? It’s make do and mend. Don’t throw things away. Fix them! It saves waste and costs less!

1.5 million have fled Ukraine πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦

Russia continues to bombard cities and towns in Ukraine. Women and children are trying to escape but escape routes are blocked and many places are under seige with no food, water or power. Bodies lie unclaimed and rotting in the streets.

Mr Putin, why are you so merciless? You are doing the same things that you did in Allepo in Syria. Your actions are not honorable. You are not supporting Ukraine citizens, you and your masses of troops are KILLING THEM.

The world needs peace and security. Especially when the threat of global warming is going to affect us all.

Putin is acting like a child having a tantrum! He needs to think again, he is in charge of this. If he has any compassion he should stop the WAR. WE NEED PEACE.

Sunset

Sunset looking out towards Cheshire/Shropshire. Its been a cold and breezy day today but plenty of sunshine. I went out drawing for an hour, then I went for a little walk this evening round Penkhull. It wasn’t far, and it was very chilly. I felt a bit better. I didn’t sleep well last night and the cold air refreshed me. Good to see the sunset.

Mural in Fenton Cafe

Mural at Fenton Town Hall by an unknown artist. It is painted in tiny squares (like pixels) and based on a plate design of an oak tree, cottages and a tumble down fence. I’ve seen it before about two years ago. Now it’s much more complete. It’s a huge picture. Very interesting and beautiful.

I had been told by staff there that it had been painted by a particular artist. I’m afraid that was not true and I’m happy to set the matter straight and confirm it was not painted by her.

Fenton cenotaph

Fenton Cenotaph. Fallen soldier, from the 1914-1918 first world War. I was out with Stoke Urban sketchers today. We were outside Fenton Town Hall. A very cold wind was blowing so I just did a small sketch. I chose to use pale blue and yellow because of what is happening in Ukraine. The news continues to be terrible. The Russians had offered a ceasefire and escape corridor for civilians to get out of Mariapol but they haven’t stopped shelling the city.

Cat sleeps

He’s there again, on the arms of the chairs. He has a cushion balanced between our two armchairs. He’s in from the cold, curled up. He will sit there for a couple of hours, then get bored or two warm, and go off again, outside one exploring, or he will go and eat and drink then come back. Yes his belly is big, he’s a happy cat. X

Falling glasses

Falling glasses. When you need reading glasses but can manage without them. You rest them on your knees- then they fall off! I was taking a photo of my cat but fumbled with the phone and snapped (not literally) my glasses instead!

What a view

Falling through

The air

Onto my shoe!

You were meant to be

My cat

But as you can see

From where they sat

On my knee

Glasses – not a cat

Fell flat

Splat!

Annoying

I keep getting messages on my Instagram account that I have won an iPhone. The trouble is I don’t want one and I’m fed up after a couple of months of being spammed. I will never click on a link. I’m not daft, I’m not tempted, I will keep blocking the posters. I think I’ve had fifteen or twenty messages so far. If I’d won that many (from all different peoples Instagram accounts) I could make a great deal of money selling them all. But I’m NOT INTERESTED. I keep blocking them and reporting them. OK that’s enough, I’ll stop spamming you xxx

Filtered design

Just a filtered version of the vintage dress I drew yesterday. Trying to keep my mind off Ukraine πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ and what is happening there. Russians fired on a huge nuclear power station and set part of it on fire. It made me think of nuclear chain reactions if it blows up. It could be worse than Chernobyl in 1986. Funny how a pattern can spark ideas. I pray for peace.
