Onomatopoeia

What’s your favorite word?

A word that actually sounds like something in life sounds…

A sizzling, fizzing, firework

Birds tweet

Dogs woof or howl

Owls hoot!

Sheep baaaa baaaa

Cows moo at you

Oompah bands play

Trombones trumpet!

Water splashing and plishing

Swishing and gurgling

Tocking ticking clocks

Wham! Bam! Crashing

A purr from a kitten or cat

A dropped boot in mud. splat!

Slurp my cocoa

Go to sleep for a few zzzeds!

Owl and pussycat

Looking at random things in the house. On my bookcase upstairs these two friends. I think I put them together because they remind me of Edward Lears poem.

The owl and the pussycat went to sea in a beautiful pea green boat.

They took some honey and plenty of money wrapped up in a five pound note…..

Which is the female and which is the male? I don’t know, is it important? I don’t  remember the full poem and I often get it mixed up with Lewis Carrolls Jabberwocky poem.

It’s amazing what pops up in your memory when you see things. I have a good visual memory and that helps when I’m painting. I often talk to myself if I’m trying to remember what something looks like or how it’s put together. X

Murals remembered

Found an old photo of my mural of Walter a regular at the Leopard Hotel in Burslem, the other picture is my reimagined  portrait of Molly Leigh, based on the mural I did of her. Both murals were destroyed when the pub burnt down a couple of years ago. I might try and recreate the Walter one too. The final photo is of my Molly Leigh painting and my Spode circular window painting in the Orme Art Group Exhibition at the Brampton museum and art gallery in Newcastle under Lyme. It’s on at the moment.

Xrays

Xray of hand ap and at an angle.

A pet peeve. I watch quite a few programmes where people have to have xrays. I think the worst thing is when the xray is presented the wrong way up or back to front, or worse still when the image is of a different part of the body!

Sometimes I just laugh, but when it’s a life or death situation I wish the film makers would make a bit more of an effort!

Why do I know this? I did a course years ago. Being an artist helped me identify things that no one else noticed. I could see things like buttons in a stomach or a comb in a pocket…. And other more “unusual” images, ahem…

Walter, found

Recently found on my phone, photo taken a few years ago.

One of my murals from the Leopard Hotel in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, it burnt down a couple of years ago. Portrait of Walter a regular there.. Mural, emulsion on lining paper. I had to paint it a few feet up the wall, the paintings were painted within a frame attached directly to the wall. I just noticed his hands are too small!

Eye wash!

Argh! My cat is on tablets twice a day for heart failure. I mix the tablet with water and use a small syringe to get him to swallow it. I forgot I don’t have a lens on the right side of my glasses. So when I squirted the syringe half went in my eye! I have washed my face and doused my eye with water, then used my antibiotic eye drops… I hope I haven’t done any real harm!

Someone asked me?

Old painting x

How to start a painting working from a blank canvas. I suggested they could start by changing the colour of the canvas. That will give you feel for how the paint goes on. Think about whether you want the canvas upright (portrait) lf on its side (landscape). You could do a gradient of colour or greys so it’s lighter towards the top or one side. Try and think of a simple subject to start. How are your drawing skills and do you want realism or an abstract subject. Most of all – enjoy!

Watching TV, eating salad, sneezing!

What are you doing this evening?

I’m already on antibiotics…

I’m trying to eat healthily, but I had my tea before I saw this prompt, so this is a free photo.

The antibiotics are for an infection in my leg. I didn’t expect to feel rough on them. But now I think I’ve been coming down with a cold (a viral infection) and the antibiotics won’t help with it.

So feeling tired and achy so I have been watching TV this evening instead of going to a meeting I was due at. I didn’t sleep well last night so I’ve been napping a few times over the day. The only trouble is that the sneezing woke me up twice! Atishoo! We all fall down!
