Autumn

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was autumn…. I imagined a wet autumn leaf because I didn’t feel like going out looking for one! Felt pens and silver ink.

I do like challenging my visual memory to draw things like this, thinking about how colours change on leaves. The texture of them, how the veins run in them. It might not be accurate but its fun.

Pattern

A digital drawing, but done on an app I don’t use anymore. I can’t remember what it was called, but it was changed radically by the people that ran it and it became much less painterly and much more patterned filters. In the end I could not get on with it. I lost the enjoyment of it. When I manipulated images I could not create patterns like this anymore. Eventually I gave up and deleted the app about three or four years ago.

ceramic head

Thirty year old ceramic head. Every year I plant this, and another one (hidden behind a hanging basket) with lobelia or other trailing plants. I was going to put in nasturtium seeds but forgot!

I’m pleased with how it’s lasted. When it was fired it had a crack in the back and over the last twenty five years its been out there I’ve expected the frost to break it but it survived. I made it at a pottery class in Newcastle-under-Lyme and was really pleased with the result.

Anyway I’m thinking of making some more if I can find a pottery class or group.x

Every day…

The cat jumps up and lies on a cushion between mine and my hubby’s chair, sometimes you can hear him purring or snoring. It’s a sign of how he trusts us. But EVERY day hubby, at some stage, will decide to stroke the cat ‘because he loves it’. The cats tail starts to twitch. He is disturbed by the attention. He wakes up and jumps down and goes out.

I have TRIED to explain the cat wants to rest and sleep. The attempt to stroke him really irritates him. I have said leave him alone and let him be. But the temptation is always there. Stop it! Leave it alone. The trouble is that it doesn’t work. Hopefully he will learn.

Strange eyes

According to scientific research symmetrical features are supposed to make people more handsome or pretty.

As an experiment I took a photo of someone’s eye then mirrored it. I tried to get the right width for the bridge of the nose. I have to say this looks strange. He does have uneven eyes in reality, with one obviously higher than the other.

The only other example of this I have seen was with a photo of Edgar Allen Poe. He has a very unsymmetric face and as with this experiment if you mirror the opposite sides the faces that result are truly weird, at least to me.

Cat presents…

Cat presents, not so much presents as lovingly presented remains of mice. Ooooh no! I get up in the morning, and there on the doorstep, something not very nice. Is there a deterrent? I feed my cats well, I give them toys, and yet they try and show love in the only way they can…. Yuk! I’m glad it only happens occasionally.

Verticals and horizontals

That was what today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was. I have three large bookcases in our living room so I drew an interpretation of them. I couldn’t see all the titles let alone draw them all. I also added cat. It’s a bit scribbly and decided to leave the drawing as black and white although I am tempted to colour it.

Model railway?

A ship docks alongside the quay as trains move to and from the docks goods yard. I focused on the boat because it was a very impressive model and clearly took pride of place on the model layout.

My hubby is into trains and often visits model railway exhibitions. I don’t go to many. I can appreciate the skills but I get a bit bored unless there is something interesting on the layouts. He can tell me what the scale of the model is, who manufactured it, even how old its likely to be. Me, I’m more interested in the dioramas (landscapes). How the trees are modelled, any buildings, if there is a Scarecrow in a feild, the quirkier the better!

Full phone

Your phone is 85% full. Please transfer data to you SD card.

Trouble is that’s almost full too. Can I get an SD card with more memory? Can I get the data transferred over? Why have I filled this phone up? I love it. Its got lots and lots (thousands) of photos on it. And I look at them, using them for inspiration for my art. If I transferred them to the cloud would they stay available? Some companies are now withdrawing the use of free cloud storage. The world must be filling up with data too… Bring back photo albums.. Dusty memories….
