Reflected idea

Tuesdays #bandofsketchers prompt was based on the prompt ‘reflection’. I hadn’t got much time, so I based this on a mirrored photo of one of my cats, the little female one.

I took the liberty of changing the colour to hold with different patterns on each cats coat. The hearts are for how much I love my cats, I also feel it looks a bit like a playing card.

Adding a ‘filter’

Using plastic wrap as a type of filter….

If you don’t have an app to add a filter why not use something real instead? Here I used some crumpled plastic wrapping paper to put over the top of my abstract drawing of a face. It almost looks like the lines are printed on the plastic. Remember, experiment, have fun!

Fish

My watercolour of goldfish I did this April. I just came across this while I was looking back at my previous art.

I was talking to someone yesterday about letting white paper come through in watercolours. I rarely soak the paper before I start painting and I frequently mix up strong colours, leaving patches of white where I want to show light coming through. The way I think about it is that I can control the paint without having to use masking fluid… And it’s cheaper tgan using white paint or gouache.

#bandofsketchers ‘hole’

I made a digital drawing based on the #bandofsketchers prompt of ‘hole’. Used my finger and a symmetry tool to create the pattern, then varied it using photodirector app.

The darker, softer image was the first, the other two were edited in photodirector and the images were duplicated in the Layout app.

Feeling owlish

Finger drawn owl

Using the digital drawing app on my phone I just did this. There is no chance of it being celtic as its a finger drawing and my arm shakes too much to draw straight or neatly curved lines.

Still it was fun to use the mirrored curves tool (what is it called?) to create this. I liked adding a bit of p

Celtic horses again.

I do love celtic style art, and I love horses too, but sometimes the complicated patterns are mind boggling. Trying to copy them freehand is just so difficult. Perhaps when I drew this I could have done a third as a template and then copied the pattern for the other two thirds? Or using one of the tools that allow you to draw daisy type patterns digitally. Maybe I will try.

Speedy snail 🐌

Thursdays #bandofsketchers prompt was slow so I decided to draw a speedy snail after watching wheelchair racing at the Paralympics. I used the pink and green ink that had bled trough from the other side of the page together with fine black ink pen to indicate a wind or breeze. I guess I could have drawn a couple of leaves being blown about in it or the snails eye stalks being blown back? Do they have four eye stalks… .

Cats eye

Our cat has been to the vets and was kept in overnight. He’s home but among other problems he’s got an ulcer on and inside his eye, it looks very cloudy. He’s on antibiotics and two types of drops. All have to be given at different times (one eye drop four times a day, one eye drop three times a day) antibiotics every twelve hours….

He’s also damaged his soft palette, possibly trying to bite his way out of where he was trapped?

And then his kidney functions are off. I hope he will recover. We will know more after the weekend…
