Cat in a box

I have a cat that loves boxes. Currently he’s sleeping in two that I’ve put together and put on top of the oven because it’s warm there. He looks so happy and cute. He can’t resist curling up inside.

Can you see he’s smiling? I think that cars eyes show you emotion. As he is happy his eyes are slightly closed. If I slowly close my eyes when I look at him he does the same thing. Staring at cats is not good, they tend to feel it is aggression. But once you know them they don’t mind as much.

Stare at a cat and it will probably walk away, but if you look somewhere else, away from it, then it might even jump up on your lap. That’s why they pay more attention to eople who don’t like them, they are looking away and the cat sees it as non aggressive, passive, behaviour.

Photo manipulation

The finger and the nose never touched. This is two photos, joined together, then I’ve drawn over the background and blurred it. I got my hubby to hold his hand out, a bit like in the painting of Adam and God’s hands in the Sistine Chapel, then I got my cat to sniff my hand, but I specifically wanted a male hand, so I’ve cropped the two together. I’ve blurred the background to look like clouds (and hide the messy background). I’m just wondering now if it’s gone a bit ‘ET phone home’?

The pale blue is where I drew a line. I tried to flood fill the background, but it didn’t work well. Anyway it’s almost 3.30am, so enough experimenting. Goodnight all.

Sleeping Cat

The cat is sleeping next to me on the chair arm. He’s curled up, warm and snug. Now he’s got a paw over his nose, keeping the light out. Soon his tail and legs will be twitching as he falls into a dream, chasing toy mice or licking cream from his bowl.

His ears are moving around, as if hearing his sister coming running up to him. They often chase each other around the room or up and down the stairs. She comes up and pounces on him, he tries to catch her…

Deep breathing, whiskers are twitching, he’s so settled. It’s mesmerising, watching him sleep….

Urban sketchers yesterday

The cat? He got in front of my sketch pad as I tried to take the photos of my drawings from yesterday. They are a large tree and workshop, a gate with a seated artist hidden behind it, and a stone figure half hidden in the bushes. These might make the basis for some new paintings as I work towards creating art for a new exhibition. I took a few photos too so I can use them to work out the colours.

I love my cat

sketch-1583260737377

Except when you put your claws in my knee,

Or sit on my chest so I can’t see!

Pin me down, like a cat up a tree.

I love my cat.

Except when you jump up and steal my tea,

Trip me up at night when I’m going for a pee!

Go and sit on somewhere I don’t want you to be…

I love my cat..

Except when scratch the side of the settee,

Scratch the furniture so I have to pay a fee..

Eat the exotic food I had from the sea.

I love my cat.

Really!

My cat watching TV

sketch-1582481088069

My cat likes watching animals on TV. I was watching a nature programme with spy cameras, they were built to look like animals so that they could film various creatures. There was a spy owl that was flying over a pack of wolves and my cat started watching it. She continued to watch till the end of the programme….

She is the only one of about eight cats that we have had over the years that has shown any interest in TV.

She just stares, sometimes if there is a chase she quickly glances at the animal doing the chasing, but to be honest the pictures are edited together so fast that it must not be coherent to a cat who can’t follow the narration! Anyway she’s gone again now. People on TV!

Cat plate present

DSC_2416

I’ve been given a couple of these cat plates by a friend recently. I really like them. They remind me of Victorian illustration, but the sepia toned cats are on a nice blue background. The back stamp says PrintRun.co and made in China. Microwave and dishwasher proof. That doesn’t give you much information. I could investigate further, but I don’t think I will.

There is a thing which people who live in Stoke-on-Trent do, which is to look at the backstamp on pottery and see where it was made.

So anyway sorry to be quiet, busy trying to learn lines!

Above our door

_20200220_143806

I designed this about 25 years ago. A cat resting in the window above our front door. My friend Phil Shaw who was a carpenter also knew how to make stained glass, so I drew out the pattern and he made this up for me. It’s been there ever since and I love it. When we had our house double glazed I wanted to have this incorporated into a window but they couldn’t do it, so it remains, behind the single glass window. Letting the sunlight in. Coloured patches on the carpet.
