Trying to answer!

Are you superstitious?

I’m superstitious about some things, not walking under ladders for instance, or saluting when I see a single Magpie (only after my friend told me about doing it). In the UK black cats are lucky so I don’t worry if I see one.

I wanted to answer this prompt, but for some reason the prompt says I’ve already answered it. I’ve had to go through a couple of extra pages to get here. Should I be superstitious? I think the human brain looks for patterns. If something goes wrong after you walk under that ladder perhaps you have tempted fate? Maybe something bad will happen if you do it again? But the person up the ladder that dropped paint on you might have laughed or been really sorry. Consequently he’s not going to be superstitious about it. The lesson is learned by the victim…

Those paintings

Here they are, quickly painted. I think the date on the bottom one is 1988? I am sure they are watercolour and pencil drawings now I look closely. I’m not sure if they were a birthday or Christmas gift? It’s lovely to see work I did over 35 years ago! To think they still exist x

Old paintings

Two small, quick paintings of cats that I painted years ago. My friend sent it to me recently. Both of them have also got poppy details. I will see if I can zoom in on them to see if I can get clearer views of them. I know they are mine, but I genuinely can’t remember painting them. That makes me feel guilty, I think I should recognise all of my work. Memory frays as you get older x

Pinned down

A year ago my cat had pinned me down on the bed! I didn’t usually have my phone with me but on this occasion the stars aligned and as I woke up, stuck, I decided to take her photo. Nowadays she sneaks under the covers next to me. She will maybe stay still for ten minutes, sticking her claws in me as she kneads away at my leg or side. Then, I think she must overheat, she will rush out and escape. One of the other cats sleeps above the cover and gently snores. If they see each other they sometimes hiss at each other, but generally they are chilled about things.

Catty

I realised I haven’t doodled much lately. I guess I’ve been too busy and distracted. So today I drew this cat in the Artrage app on my phone. It’s meant to be a tabby cat with grey black and white fur. I didn’t use the metallic option at all so the paler colours show up better than they would if I had. It’s like everything else, you learn what works for you.

Sleepless in Stoke

I need one if those old fashioned ‘intermission’ films they used to show between films at a Saturday matinee at the cinema to relax my mind. Gentle music and the sight of a potters wheel twirling might help me to sleep. I’ve forgotten the various little strategies I use to try and fall asleep. Pain and discomfort have held my mind up like a theif of sleep. Haunting me in the night. A few, drowsy thoughts and I’m awake again, sometimes disturbed by a heartbeat out of turn or the patter of cats paws. I have things to do today and I didn’t  want to be tired. 6am…..goodnight, I will try counting sheep

Cat keeps warm

She’s taking advantage of the radiator being on for a while. A friend said she looks content in the photo.

I currently have another cat sitting on my knees poddling (kneading) me. I’m enjoying being nuzzled on my hand while loud purrs are surrounding me.

Content cats lead to content humans, warm and happy cats show you love. I don’t think they are as aloof as they are sometimes painted. But they do seem to have an off switch, they can be lovely and then just jump off you for no reason! My Mom used to call it cupboard love, because they usually just want feeding!
