Afternoon tea at the Quarter

Teatime

I went out for afternoon tea with some lovely ladies. It was a spur of the moment thing but I was really pleased to be invited. It’s not something English people do everyday!

The meal included various small sandwiches, mini quiche, a scone with jam and clotted cream, a mini Victoria sponge and a mini chocolate brownie.

And lashings of cups of tea or coffee (normal or decaff). The result was a delicious and tasty meal.

The Quarter cafe is at the Spode Site at Elanora Street, Stoke upon Trent. I think there is another one in the city centre (Hanley). You have to book the tea you can’t just arrive. Service was really good, the waitress was very helpful.

Cup of tea

Decaff tea isn’t brilliant at waking you up, but at least the caffeine levels are healthy..

I like English breakfast tea, earl grey and just bog standard tea bags. I don’t like speciality teas, some of the flavoured ones taste lovely but can be packed with sugar. And cost a lot. I’m also not keen on camomile tea which gave me nightmares when I drank it.

Why are the photos on the free photo list on here so hard to find? Most of the ones under “tea” are made without milk, which makes me think most of the images are American? Us brits generally like a brew made with boiling water on a teabag then when it’s steeped, we add milk and sugar or sweetner or nothing else. I don’t know many people who take it with lemon. Most people like builders tea (very strong in a mug). Enjoy!

Hubbys idea of tea.

Crackers, cheese, butter, banana.

No vegetables, no other colours

No salad, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce?

Not tempting, maybe tasty?

Cheese is salty, crackers are salty.

Not sure if I should eat the banana

Butter is salted.

I’m thirsty!

Give me time

I’ll try and teach him

Meanwhile? Yum?

A cup of tea

I asked hubby for a cup of tea, ten minutes ago. He put the kettle on then wandered off somewhere. I can’t make it myself as I’m walking around with crutches. My balance is a bit off and I’m still in pain so I’m struggling to support my weight on my foot, I’m getting better but the damage only happened four days ago.

I know it’s hard for him, his mental health isn’t good. I asked him to cook tea earlier. I had to tell him to read the instructions, he can’t hear me because he gets irritated by his hearing aids. When he’s in the kitchen and I’m in the living room, he says my voice sounds like “wah wah wah”. Then he accused me of “mansplaining”, I was just trying to help him. I know his anxiety is bad, how do I help without appearing to interfere?

I’ve just written this and still no sign of him!
