Closed eyes against the sunshine
Dazzled in the low sun
He came in for five minutes
Ate some food
Said hello
Then off he goes
Enjoying the afternoon, bright
In the brilliant, illuminating light.
New paintings and regular art updates.

Oh you sweet cat
One belly rub required
To make him happy
But beware the claws
That protect his tummy
From your intrusion
Be careful
Or you may lose your hand!

Grey man,
Carved stone
Oak leaves
And acorns
Sculpted from granite
A Robin
Might peck at you
Ivy entwine you
Algae wrap you in green
Lichen inhabit you
Stone you are
Soil you may become
With age and ice
Weather and water
Till ground into a powder
You are amalgamated
And your stone face
Is incorporated
Transformed and metamorphosised
Into a real tree.

I wish I was a cat
Lying on a bag
Tongue peeping out
No need to shout
Asleep and happy
Having a nap, he
Curves round
Belly upwards
A really sweet cat
Dreaming of birds
Seen through a window
In the sun
On a spring morning.

I saw the sky this evening
Turned bloody orange
As if on fire
Light streaming through
Branches and trees
Illuminating a landscape
Still dry from lack of rain.
The hedge behind us
Was split by the light
A shaft of red and gold
For telling bright weather
And clear skies
And stars
For the night ahead…..

Yes, we have three cats
Hungry, playful, cheeky
Are not their names
Sometimes together
Sometimes apart
Chasing each other
Loving toys
Liking treats
Eating catnip.
Hiding in, under, on.
Jumping, climbing, causing
Fun and trouble
Things, found, battled
Played with.
Equipped with claws and teeth
And purrs and growls
Formidable felines!
Nine lives!

Red sky this morning
Weather warning?
But the sky turned blue
A lovely hue
The sun shone
No one cried
The wind just dried
The washing
No rain came
Which was the same
As yesterday
Except that was grey
So red sky
Was a weather lie!

Sequins, shiny and bright
Sparkle and twinkle
In the light
Plastic circles
Dragon scales?
Are they magic
No, just pale
Imitations of fish skin
Gleaming and glittering in
The bright
Light
Tonight.

Milky latte
Soft coffee
Warm and creamy
A beverage, dreamy
Drink to warm
In cold weather
Makes a delicious
Thirst quencher.
Why write about it?
A conversation starter
Over coffee
Adds to frendship
When we meet.
Helps us greet.

I think seeing the white rabbit picture this week pushed some memories forward from the back of my mind…
Some of them I haven’t recalled since my childhood, and I don’t know if anyone else remembers them. I can remember two fully…
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water,
Jack fell down and broke his crown, and Jill came tumbling after.
Up Jack got, and home did trot, as fast as he could caper.
He went to bed, to mend his head with vinegar and brown paper!
And…
See-saw Marjorie Daw
Jenny will have a new master
She shall earn but a penny a day
Because she can’t work any faster!
These are memories from the 1960’s. Boy I feel old. I wish I could fully remember Oranges and Lemons, said the bells of St Clements. Or George Porgie, pudding and pie…
It’s funny what you have contained in that greyish pink blancmange called your brain. It can hold information that has slurped about inside it for decades. Like I think I know the triumvirate in the Russian revolution was Kaminev, Zinoviev and Trotsky (I learnt it for history and it stuck).
Memory is strange and sometimes randow. But as they say, we are our memories, and our experiences teach us how to manage life.
