Cat out of a box…

I wanted to take a cute photo of my cat sitting in a box on the kitchen counter but he will keep jumping out when he sees me! (he wants a love). So this was the best I could get. A couple of months or so ago he was having treatment after being lost for eight days. He finally came home with tarry oil on his coat and an ulcer in his eye and damage to his mouth. That’s why his tail looks a funny shape, I had to cut off some fur because it was so matted and the substance on it would have continued to poison him.

Now he’s perky, his fur is growing back, he’s leaping up on the kitchen counter again and playing with his toys. He’s happy and so I’m happy too. X

Wish I was a warm fussy cat

Snoozing on the chair

Tucked up nice and snug

Feeling really very smug

Basking in warm air!

Wish I was a happy little cat

Eating till I’m full

As I’m feeling very fat,

I’d rest my paws and head

Sleeping on the bed.

Wish I were a contented cat

Dreaming of chasing mice

Never having to hunt for food

Playing with my catnip toys

When I’m in the mood.

Used sketcher free to draw a flower, it’s a very flat technique, the brushes are quite interesting including ribbons, pixels, a chrome pen and an eraser. Because I’m still shaking (problem with my arm) I’m using it to experiment with wavy lines. I just used a simple pallette, green, dark grey, pink, yellow and chrome.

The idea started as some leaves but then I decided to add a single flower. The plants leaves are drawn to look wrinkly and interesting.

Using plastic wrap as a type of filter….

If you don’t have an app to add a filter why not use something real instead? Here I used some crumpled plastic wrapping paper to put over the top of my abstract drawing of a face. It almost looks like the lines are printed on the plastic. Remember, experiment, have fun!

Just a doodle of a bee holding the stub of a pencil. It was an idea for a logo. It wasn’t taken up, but I think the artist liked it.

I suppose I could do a whole alphabet using animals or insects and different artists materials…. From an Aardvark holding a paintbrush to a Zebra on a canvas? I don’t know?

Try drawing then putting that through as many filters as you can. Layering one idea over another, changing colours, tones, putting in lighting effects. Always try and do something new, different. Learn as you experiment. Know how you can change things.

I decided to put a cat drawing through filters

Cat drawn with a biro. Then I altered it in photodirector, and then added colours with a flood fill and a digital pen. I like building different layers. It’s fun being creative.

A torch shines. It’s light illuminates a running figure. A trail of blood shows its steps.

This was a transformation we had to do in our illustration workshop this afternoon.

How to show up the image? I used post-it notes to show the shape of the surface as the figure is running across the floor. If I hadn’t had just 20 minutes I would have added a chequerboard pattern. As it was it was fun to do.

Football ⚽

Used to like it, the beautiful game. The skills, the athleticism, the ability. But I got fed up with it. The prices players are bought and sold for. The money they earn. I hate the way some teams can receive millions of pounds in TV rights, while the bottom clubs languish and are often running out of money.

The other thing I dislike is the way the fans act. They can be so antagonistic, fighting and getting drunk. The rivalry can turn into violence. I don’t think there is any need for it. There is too much racism too.

I hope that things will go OK tonight. That’s when England play against Denmark. May the best team win.

Cats are odd

My cats have decided to play with my socks instead of the toys I get for them. They don’t use the balls that light up, or the striped mouse, or an octopus with feathers (don’t ask). No it’s socks, socks, socks and the occasional underpants! Mostly they play a bit and then sit on them… Keeping their paws warm no doubt.

This is the two boys, one indoor, the other outdoor, although really they are both now. Both are friendly with each other and our girl cat. They get on quite well and don’t fight, there is the occasional paw raised, but if I tell them off they stop. I do love them.
