Last night

Last night I thought I heard movement in the garden, a bit of noise, something rattled. I didn’t know what to do so I opened the back door. I think the noise was coming from a neighbouring property but just to be on the safe side I made a noise to make them aware someone had noticed. Then I did something strange. My phone was on charge but I pretended I was speaking to the police! I had a one sided conversation and left gaps as if I was listening to their response. It went something like this…..

Hello

Police please?

Hello, I’m ringing from…..

I can hear movement and think there is someone in my garden.

Yes it’s been happening for a few minutes.

You’ve got someone in the area?

Thank you

Ten minutes? I’ll lock the door and wait..

It was a bit like improvised acting. I don’t know why I did it. I wasn’t going to go outside, and I wanted to make anyone out there aware they might be caught. I feel a bit daft now. Was I right to do it?

Alone

I look at the bedroom window and see my hubbys cask of ashes there. I tell him it’s a sunny day and I wish he was here. It’s been a while since I’ve felt this low, and I’ve spent most of the day in silence. I spoke to a neighbour and had a brief chat, but that was like a tiny sticking plaster trying to cover over a deep gash in my flesh. It was never going to hold for long.

I’m sitting quietly, the TV is on. I just watched a show where a nurse recently lost her husband in an accident and the tears started filling me up. Like an ocean overtopping flood defences. Now I feel tired out and just overwhelmed with sadness. I need to get out, but I won’t ask anyone. I need to talk but I’m struck dumb, I need to feel better but I feel so low. I’m saying these things here to get them off my shoulders and mind. Things have got to improve, they must.

Bad stats!

Oh dear, I’m not on line as much and my stats are going down. I’ve been in choir performances over the last few days and by the time I get home I’m usually exhausted and fall asleep. At the moment I’ve nodded of a few times, I can hardly stay awake.

My neighbours hammering at 7am in the morning which doesn’t help. I think he is knocking the plaster off the walls of his kitchen where it is damp. Anyway I’ll write more later x

Spooky yawn

Caught in a yawn, the cats are all in as my neighbours on both sides have both had bonfires. I’m rather annoyed. The closer neighbour had a very smoky, smelly fire, it’s meant the clothes on my line will need washing again. The one further down the road has a real blaze with black smoke billowing up from it at the moment.

I think they are burning an old tyre? I actually rang them up because there was nothing, then suddenly a whoosh of flame. I guess they poured some petrol on their fire? It frightened me and I was going to ring the fire brigade. I thought it was unattended but then I saw a shadowy figure through what’s left of my hedge after they hacked it back on their side!

So I’m stressed as I don’t want the cats to get hurt and the local hedgehogs may have been burnt 😒. Stay Safe X

Quiet day

I’d like to have gone outside.

Today was quite a quiet day. After yesterday I’m glad. I did have someone knock on theΒ  door asking if my garden gate led down an entry to the back of the next door houses. They had bought a house two doors up and wanted to get round the back?

I had to explain the entry was further down but since the shop on the corner has bought the land where the alley was you now have to go round into the next street and walk along a narrow path by the side of a garage to get round.

I have also been waiting for some medicine so I was pleased to get a text message to say it was ready I started to get ready to go out I realised it was 4.25 pm and they shut at 4.30 pm so I will have to wait until Monday.

Tomorrow might be more interesting. Fingers crossed.

Apple tree blossom

Last year we got some blossom on our apple tree but very few fruit. This year despite cold wet and windy weather the tree is absolutely covered in blossom.

The tree is bent over and trained against our fence so our neighbours actually have more of the tree in their garden. I’m hoping the blossom gets pollenated but again I’ve seen very few insects because of the weather. Fingers are definitely crossed on this.

Friendly

What makes a good neighbor?

I don’t care who they are as long as they are friendly.

Respectfully, I think the best neighbours need to be friendly, but not always friends. We all have different ways of doing things. Some people have noisy pets or play loud music, but as long as you can speak to them and work things out you have a chance of living in harmony. I always try and be polite and considerate. I’ve only ever fallen out with neighbours once in 30 years. They were students and we’re playing loud music day and night for a week.

They were disturbing my next door but one neighbour who was due to have a baby. They would not answer the front door. So I stuck my hand through the letterbox with my panic alarm beeping very loudly. Eventually someone came to the door. I asked them if they were at college? Yes. So I said, you understand you are creating a nuisance as you are intelligent? The student told me they never had problems in their halls of residence. I then explained the street was full of normal people. She apologised and the noise stopped! Not my friendliest action but it sorted out the problem!

Bed soon

suddenly at twelve the world went bang! Let’s just say it, people are glad that 2020 is over!

Bang! The neighbours set off fireworks, then the other neighbours set off theirs, soon the sky was full of bangs and crashes. Luckily our outdoor cat was in on the bed. It’s now just after 1 am and he’s gone out!

Goodnight and best wishes for the future.

New challenge with Stoke USK

_20200419_190902We all agreed after completing the thirty day challenge that London Urban Sketchers had put together that we would like to continue. We have a new list of about 37 challenges, which may well see us out of the lockdown.

Today’s challenge was ‘local to you’.

I was going to draw all the lovely terraces up the hill behind us. But I failed to realise how much next doors bushes have grown. So this is the cat and the 70’s houses behind us. Then someone walked into the bedroom opposite. It was like a scene from the film ‘rear window’ so I retreated!

I have the list somewhere. I’m setting the daily challenges. A few people have joined in so far.

Net curtains

_20200210_123927_optimized

When you live next to a road, without a front garden, you need something to obscure people views of the inside of your home. I mean, if it was a show home it might be different, but I’m messy when it comes to life. I’ve got lots of art materials and canvases so you can imagine.. I have a studio at Spode, but in winter it’s too cold to use.

Anyway I used to have lovely net curtains, with cat patterns on them, but they got clawed by my new cats, so these are stronger, less easy to damage. The cats still climb on the windowledge and look out, half the time they pull the net curtains along with them, so I’m constantly having to straighten them up…. Like a nosy neighbour twitching their curtains!
