Back to yoga class

My Blue and Orange mandala ©

After several weeks away from the yoga class I went back tonight. I do chair yoga as I cannot get up from the floor, but our teacher allows me to adapt positions so I can get the same effect. I also join in the breathing and relaxation parts of the session. The only thing I cannot do are inverted postures, where your head is on the ground and your legs and arms are raised so the blood goes to your head.

I have been doing yoga on and off for a few years, I don’t feel like I’m an expert, I’m not capable of doing some of the moves, but I try my best, which I think is a good part of yoga’s ethos. I am never going to be to do all the balances and postures, but it does help me relax.

Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope or Mandala using a sketch app on my phone, I think as I draw I try and create an interesting and satisfying pattern. You don’t know what you will end up with when you start, but I think it does help relax you. The app allows you to draw symmetrical patterns by repeating one line over and over again round a circle. I love playing with apps.

Swirls

Swirls drawn digitally. Artrage oils and photodirector. Draw swirls then play with editing options. You can do all sorts of things with digital apps. I feel like this is a little like a coral surface or a Mandala.

Pattern again, my thing, I suppose I will never get enough of it. Something happens in my brain and I have to do this. I’m addicted to art and patterns. I love convolutions.

Mandala?

Drawing really helps keep me calm. This is another doodle I started this morning. I’ve mirrored it to make it more symmetrical and to create a new pattern.

I like drawing in black ink, and by mirroring, it makes a simple act of putting pen to paper more complex.

I may cover the whole page. Might take a few more hours…..

Mandala

I like creating kaleidoscopic patterns and this one reminded me of a Mandala I saw years ago.

I used to go to yoga sessions and loved relaxing and meditating. All I need now is some beautiful relaxing music.

By looking at something like this or drawing one you can take your mind away from the stresses of the outside world and start to relax. I understand why people like adult colouring books,  and there is something I have heard of called zentangle, although I’m not exactly sure how that works.

I used to enjoy trying to draw celtic knots but haven’t done any for years. Perhaps that is the next thing to investigate. I wonder what it is that attracts people to pattern making. I know I love to do it.
