Move to trash…

IMG_20190525_180756

I have no space here. Each time I try and post a new photo I get the message that I don’t have enough space. 99 or 100% of memory full..

I will update my WordPress account although I don’t know if I can really afford it. I suppose I just got too involved in this, seeing my stats going up week by week. Feeling the excitement that people might like what I do.

So I’m using an old picture I drew instead of something new tonight. Eeking out my space. I have things I want to say but I don’t have space, photos I want to post, words to speak. Life to live. Maybe I can do more soon.

Reading

FB_IMG_1557713519232

I just asked my hubby what he’s reading. Short stories he said, but it has kittens in it?!

Well that’s nice, it reminds me of books like ‘somewhere a cat is waiting’ by Derek Tangie (not sure if spelling). Also ‘the silent miaow’ and ‘jennie’ both by Paul Gallico I think. They are all old books so they might take a bit of searching for. That’s one of the things about having lots of books, they are not necessarily recently written.

I asked what he’s reading ‘the secrets of St Dee’ by Victoria Routledge. It sounds interesting and convoluted.

He said, she said

He said, let’s visit the big house.

She said, do we have to?

He said, yes it would be fun

She said, but it’s boring.

He said, you liked Scarborough Castle,

She said, that was last year.

He said, what do you mean?

She said, I’m older now.

He said, you will like it.

She said, no, no way.

He said, well I’m going anyway,

She said, Dad. I’m a teenager now. It’s boring and I’m not going, end of!

Mirror, mirror on the wall

Who is the sweetest of them all?

This is a mirror and surround made by Sculpted Steel at the Forge at Etruria Industrial museum. The actual mirror is a quarter of this but I was playing with duplicating photos again.

The blacksmith, Charis is very talented and has had work exhibited at Tatton Park, I think at one of the garden shows.

Gran

It’s 23 years since she died and I still miss her. I miss the visits with my mother to see her. She had an open fire in her living room and when I was little I used to make spills of rolled up newspaper to light the fire with. I think my grandad used to use them to light his pipe. Infront of the fire was a big peg rug, made of pieces of rag cut into thin strips and pushed through a hessian sack backing. The chimney caught fire once because gran had put a board across it to draw the air in. The fire caught the soot in the chimney. The fire brigade arrived.

At one stage I remember the kitchen had a tin bath on a ledge at the end of the kitchen. They must have had it infront of the fire. The other downstairs room in the house was the front parlour. It had a big heavy suite in it and an aspedistera in a pot on a stand. The parlour was only ever used for formal occasions. I think I remember dusting it for gran sometimes.

At the back of the house was an alleyway but it was only narrow and beyond that was the gate into the back garden. Gran and grandad used to keep hens.

Once you start remembering it’s funny what comes back.

Yesterdays sketches

Just a few, sketched while at the Etruria festival. There was a giant chess board which I drew with a black sharpie, a few people were playing the game, but it seemed mainly young children walking across the board.

I was trying to draw the trees round the back of the museum. The trouble was there were too many leaves. One of the drawings is of the flint mill chimney and part of my husbands head. The other is of a couple sitting and drinking tea. I didn’t want them to know so I kept having to look away when they looked towards me.

99.9% of 6 Gig full

I can use my images that are already uploaded but I can’t use any new pictures because I’ve reached my limit. Ideally I’d like to remove or delete some pictures to make more space but can’t see how to delete them off WordPress.

Maybe I should go through my earliest posts here and delete them? I mean who is going to be interested in my ramblings? I could upgrade my plan here. But then it means spending more. Should I just post to Facebook and leave here, after all it was going to be an art blog but it’s not really kept to that track, more of a muttering in the ear of a few hundred people, occasionally a flicker of recognition. So anyway, any recommendations?

Part of paradise

My friend Su (ladybirdsu) has a op up garden at the Etruria festival. Blue boxes are laced in a geometric grid which is based on Islamic tiles. The whole effect is calming with a small solar powered fountain at the centre. Set on slightly sloping ground the whole piece sits on an unused part of the grounds between the Trent and Mersey Canal and the Cauldon canal. It is by lock 39 of the Trent and Mersey if you are looking for a specific location. It’s good to see art and history coming together in an effort to integrate the two.

Other projects in the area include greening Stoke, where areas of the town have had wild flowers planted and Spode Rose garden which has been more formally planted. In an age if climate crisis I think we need more of this work.

I would post other photos but I appear to have reached a limit on WordPress. I will see what I can do.

Fine art degree shows

DSC_1984

Went to see the fine art degree shows, for copyright reasons I haven’t taken photos. Overall impression? Interesting and different. I’m feeling old fashioned because I use paint and canvas.

I suppose things have changed a lot over the forty years since I started my degree.

By the way I appear to have used up all my memory space on here in the six months since the start of the year. I may have to change my plan to carry on posting photos here!
