New paintings and regular art updates.
I did this drawing for remembrance day on Sunday and made a donation to the Royal British Legion. I cut two curves in the paper before colouring it in to make the petals come forward. I made it look similar to the poppies that are usually on sale at this time of year and then shaded the petals to enhance the 3d effect. I added the Motto “Lest we Forget”. I mean this to represent everyone, everywhere not just certain people or countries. I hope this makes sense?
Yesterday’s #bandofsketchers sketch was tools, the hammers are a bit rusty. The mole grips are out of the ark. I put them an a cushion as an interesting background. It is only a very quick sketch but I enjoyed doing it. Theres another group I’m in #uskstoke, Stoke Urban Sketchers is starting doing virtual sketch outs because of lockdown. So might be posting some more pictures here from that.

What are we doing to our blue marble?
life will cling on
if we are gone,
hiding in cracks and crevices’
finding the light
maybe
if we are gone
the bees can come back
and re-colonise
earth….
I drew this back in August, I can’t believe its so long ago! I was mooching through my pictures because what I have on my computer is not synced with my phone ( which has most of my images on it). Whatever happened to digital cameras? Ive still got one in a drawer somewhere, probably with leaking batteries in it, now I just use my phone. How much technology has been discarded because it no longer works?
For instance i have an idea to use little watches in an artefact for a college piece, what I want to find out is whether you can use reconditioned watches instead of buying in new and wasting resources.
So I come back to my little sketch, analogue, ink on paper. I dont know what I was channeling, but it makes sense, dont waste, use less…..
My shoulder has decided to play up, I’m in a lot of pain, I’m trying to get a doctors appointment but in the meantime I’ve got a lavender scented wheat bag that you microwave and then put on the affecting ed area. It smells nice but I’m not sure it’s actually helping. Maybe I need embrocation! The worst thing is how tired I feel. That’s why I’ve not been here today….
If I was happy I would be painting, I would be relaxed. I would not have the weight of the world on my shoulders. My chair that I rest paintings on is empty. I have things to do. It’s just the world turns and I want to get off as the old saying goes.

I’ve just had a few paintings accepted at a local gallery (the waiting room gallery in Longport) that I’ve had work in before. Those are 2019 paintings, but they still are for sale. They will be on display in their on line gallery. I will post details when I have them.
Sometimes I go a little abstract, and then I particularly like adding flowing lines and spirals. I guess I’m a pattern lover. This cat painting is acrylic on canvas. I did it in 2008. I do remember painting it but I don’t know if it was ever exhibited, I think perhaps I should have an archive but I never got round to it. I think I can see a hint of of illustration ideas in this. But then Ive always been disorganised. I am thinking of setting up a new webpage which will only be for illustrations so that I can add images that might be for sale, or look into doing tee shirt designs. I’ve heard of places like Redbubble , Spoonflower or Square, is anyone familiar with them?
On my walk yesterday I saw two lots of snapdragon still flowering the and some pale pink ones next to them. These are summer flowers, usually gone by now. Thus was up a high hill, at the side of the pavement next to the road. Impressive survival skills.
My hanging baskets are still surviving and if they haven’t flopped after the cold tonight I will take some more photos of them. They can’t last much longer. Soon the leaves will be gone and the flowers will be dead. Let’s hope they last a while longer.

I’m not convinced getting a motorbike was a good idea for my hubby. He doesn’t use it very often. He’s done 160 miles in…….. Two years! His tank was on red so he went down the garage. It cost £2.65 to fill the tank. When I think how much it costs to fill my car. No comparison. But I have only filled my tank up five or six times since March so its cost considerably less than before. Plus we are walking more.. Win win.
View down a hill across the city as we were walking back home tonight. The street lights of the main dual carrageway road that runs through the city were shining brightly. Up here the view is across the valley of the river Trent. On a clear day you can see the way the land undulates towards the horizon about three or four miles away? There are hills to the left behind the buildings that rise up to a TV mast on a hill and then further on the green fields and pockets of woodland heading up to the Staffordshire moorlands. Straight in front and over the city hills would lead you eventually East into Nottinghamshire, and South the land is also covered in farms and woods, heading towards the Birmingham conurbation fotry or fifty miles away. We are an isolated city, surrounded by mostly countryside. A pleasant situation when so many other cities around England seem to be be surrounded by satellite towns. Fresh air is not too far away.
