Keys

She was searching for the keys for the back door…

She had let herself in the front door with a key she had found in the street. It had just been there, in the gutter. Perhaps fallen from a pocket? The address was stuck to it with a bit of sellotape. She wondered why and pondered if the person it belonged to was forgetful….

She decided to try and find the house or flat it was from, so she looked it up on her phone. Success, only two streets away. She would go round and drop it off.

A few minutes later she was outside a large, smart house. Set back in a large corner plot. Bushes and trees and a neatly trimmed lawn. She walked up the gravel drive, her feet crunching so loudly she was certain any occupent would hear her coming.

She knocked on the big blue door. And gazed through the frosted glass to see if she could see movement. But nothing but silence greeted her.

She knocked again, should she post the key through the brass letterbox, or wrap it in some paper from her bag and leave a message?

There was no reply so she pulled the key out of her bag. But she looked at the door lock. Why not? She knew she was being nosey but…. She lifted the key and unlocked the door. ‘Hello’ she called loudly. ‘Anyone home?’ No reply again…. She walked further in, looking around. A marble floor, beautiful paintings on the wall. Swag curtains on the windows, made of blue and green velvet. That was just the hall! Gradually she explored the downstairs area, reception rooms, beautifully decorated and furnished. A dining table set in a plush dining room. Each more luxurious than the last. She passed admiring glances over the fully fitted kitchen. An island! How did people afford such luxury?

Suddenly she heard the front door slam… She hadn’t locked it, whoever was there would have noticed that. ‘Who’s here?’ came a loud male voice. She stood still and silent, the shout came again, louder now, exploring. Heavy footsteps running upstairs. Now was her chance. She ran into the utility room where she had seen the back door. Keys hung on a board together with a Swiss army knife. Scrambling she tried to find the key to the back door. Keys fell, crashing loudly to the floor. ‘Who is there? ‘ Louder, closer, feet rushing. I’ve got to get out, anywhere, maybe I can hide in the back garden or find a side gate? She thought in a panic…..

Outside, running. Towards the gate. Feet running after her, he grabbed her wrist. Thrust the knife blade towards her throat. ‘Who the hell are you?’ he screamed in her face…..

Autumn view

There is a view from our stairs window across the garden, it’s only about twenty feet away, but it’s like looking across a small wood. There is the skeleton of a building beyond. This was being built in March earlier this year but nothing has happened to it since then. Maybe one day the workmen will come back and finish it off? But I’m pleased it’s still not done, I really don’t want to have people overlooking me as I go to bed!

Cone of shame?

Bad word… Fleas. My poor cat is allergic to them and sadly because we have been letting the outdoor cat in he’s been affected by them. So I took him to the vets and he’s had to have a steroid injections and a course of tablets. Now I’ve come home with a new flea treatment that works better than the one I’ve been using for the last couple of years. I’ve also got a treatment for the outdoor cat. So fingers crossed. Meanwhile my boy cat has got to wear this cone of shame, and it’s not his fault, it’s nothings fault…

Remembrance

I did this drawing for remembrance day on Sunday and made a donation to the Royal British Legion. I cut two curves in the paper before colouring it in to make the petals come forward. I made it look similar to the poppies that are usually on sale at this time of year and then shaded the petals to enhance the 3d effect. I added the Motto “Lest we Forget”. I mean this to represent everyone, everywhere not just certain people or countries. I hope this makes sense?

Tools

Yesterday’s #bandofsketchers sketch was tools, the hammers are a bit rusty. The mole grips are out of the ark. I put them an a cushion as an interesting background. It is only a very quick sketch but I enjoyed doing it. Theres another group I’m in #uskstoke, Stoke Urban Sketchers is starting doing virtual sketch outs because of lockdown. So might be posting some more pictures here from that.

so long ago

I drew this back in August, I can’t believe its so long ago! I was mooching through my pictures because what I have on my computer is not synced with my phone ( which has most of my images on it). Whatever happened to digital cameras? Ive still got one in a drawer somewhere, probably with leaking batteries in it, now I just use my phone. How much technology has been discarded because it no longer works?

For instance i have an idea to use little watches in an artefact for a college piece, what I want to find out is whether you can use reconditioned watches instead of buying in new and wasting resources.

So I come back to my little sketch, analogue, ink on paper. I dont know what I was channeling, but it makes sense, dont waste, use less…..

Heated wheat bag

My shoulder has decided to play up, I’m in a lot of pain, I’m trying to get a doctors appointment but in the meantime I’ve got a lavender scented wheat bag that you microwave and then put on the affecting ed area. It smells nice but I’m not sure it’s actually helping. Maybe I need embrocation! The worst thing is how tired I feel. That’s why I’ve not been here today….
