Woody cat

The abandoned cat who is virtually ours. He definitely has adopted us. He’s wheedled his way into our lives. He gets fed regularly, sleeps in a bed in a shed, and comes and sits on your lap when he feels like it. I will try and get his microchip altered. His owners went away and left him. He would be in the house, but I have two rescue cats already. I’m getting them vaccinated next week and then we can try and introduce them to each other. Things could get difficult.

I do love him, he’s worked his way into my heart. These photos of him were taken in the garden this afternoon.

Cherry ripe

DSC_2759

Got to try and harvest some more cherries between the thunderstorms.

We got a lot off the lower branches. We need a rake or something to grab some of the other branches. We have almost eaten the other ones we picked. I’m jealous of the birds that can get at the ones on the top branches. It’s great to have fresh fruit grown in your own garden. My friend bought a cherry tree but hers was a sour type. Ours is sweet. It’s worth checking and this tree is self fertile which means it sets fruit without the need of a companion tree.

Happy gardening.

Me and her

_20200519_000359_optimized

We were friends, twenty years ago, me and her, inseparable. I painted us together, and remember her with fondness. She was so bright. She understood me. She pounced when I threw a ball for her. Jumped when I tapped the wall outside. Purred so happily. She was my soul mate.

This weekend two friends lost their cats to illness. It reminded me of how felines can be so loving. They may sometimes be aloof, but a glance of joy from there eyes is enough to entrance you. Cats are bright, sneaky and sharp.

Never underestimate a cat.

The cat sculpture is happy

DSC_2701

The cat sculpture by Charis Jones, of Sculpted Steel based at the Forge at Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, has settled nicely into the greenery of our garden. It stares out from between geraniums and lilies. The light glints on its glass eyes and shows off the lovely green coppery finish.

I don’t commission art very often, but Charis translated my two dimensional drawing into a remarkably beautiful cat. Proud and purrfect. It’s crinkly whiskers full of character. I’m pleased to possess it.

Robin

DSC_2339_optimized

Robin painting from November.

I was reading about Robins on Facebook today where I read this that a friend had posted:

She  I looked up ‘what does it mean if a Robin visits?’

Meaning found: If a robin keeps visiting you in indicates good luck. According to myths and legends, Robins appear once a loved one has died, Allegedly, it’s a simple message from heaven; that this loved one is watching over you. Robins also appear spiritually, to remind you to uncover the happiness.
Robins are also associated with the end of an old phase and the entering of a new one. To see Robin means you need to let go of what no longer serves you and find something else to bring you joy and happiness. The Robin bird is encouraging you to be brave again.

I don’t set much store in old wives tales, but this is sweet. In such a difficult world its good to remember the nice things. We have at least one Robin in the garden, bustling around, finding food. He’s very welcome along with blackbirds and blue tits. I must make an effort and try and get some photos….

Poddling

I once saw a cartoon of a cat on a poster, paws kneading someone’s arm. The picture had a red circle with a diagonal red line across it. Below it, it said something like poddle free Cheshire.

Poddling, a lovely, possibly made up, word to describe when a cat sits on you, claws slightly out, kneading ‘poddling’ your leg. If you have loving cats like mine you end up with hundreds of tiny puncture wounds in your thigh. I try and wear trousers made of thick, dense material to protect myself. Sometimes this behaviour goes on for three or four minutes while my cat gently purrs to herself. It only stops when my hubby walks back in the room, then the cat leaps off and goes away ( he makes her nervous as he is quite loud!)

Play your beautiful tune.

Notes bright and fast,

now slow and low,

up and down and round.

Vibrating strings,

music arching about.

Liquid notes,

that hold the mind

In thrall of sorrow or beauty.

Such wonderful feelings

stirred by movement,

bow drawn over strings.

Takes mind in hand

a merry dance

all through the land,

We jump and prance,

gives joy to all around!
