Ten minute sketch while watching #skylandscapeartistoftheyear. It was of the Forth Bridge, although one of the towers looks like its collapsing! One of the reasons it was quick was because I wanted to watch the show and see what the artists did. You can’t do that while you are drawing. I enjoyed it very much.
We sing all sorts of music in the choirs I am in. We learn by repetition rather than using sheet music. We’ve been learning Bulgarian songs, and ones by Robert Burns recently. Also sea shanties. There is one choir called Clay Chorus thatΒ has men and women singing in it and Loud Mouth Women which is a women only choir. Both are usually unaccompanied (a capella), although sometimes we have a guitar or ukulele to help with the tune. There are no auditions, people just come along and try. Many stay with the choirs for years. It was such a shame when we couldn’t meet because od Covid. Now all of us are vaccinated, we wear masks when we move around. The windows are open and we keep the room well ventilated. We do lateral flow tests to be safe. It’s fun to sing again.
Have you ever seen curling? Curling π₯ is a game on ice where two teams take it in turn to slide curling stones on an icy surface along to a target π― area. The closest to the centre (button) wins its a game of strategy. Curling stones can be set to guard the target, preventing the other team from getting close to the centre. Curling stones can be sent gently down the ice, or hard, to knock the other teams stones out of the target area. Each team gets the ‘hammer’ in turn, which means going last in the end. An advantage as you may get a stone in the best position on the last curl of the end. There are different games using slightly different rules. I was watching the UK against Sweden at the Olympics today. And that’s where the trifle comes in. I had dome of it for lunch. Then noticed the bade of the dish has circles in it a bit like a curling target! Just a nice gentle lunch and bit of telly watching. X
Hubby laughed! I used a red envelope with a white interior and then just used scissors to cut out the heart shape and I made a wide hinge/ flap so I could write all the way round the heart. I couldn’t get a good photo because the lighting casts shadows so it’s a bit twisted. There are quick sketches of a rose and a violet… Anyway it was quick and effective.
Spring cleaning and I found this card. It’s off a relative and it must be twenty or thirty years old. I was moving a bookcase amd found it down the back together with an A to Z of Stoke-on-Trent. Its so cute with the fire extinguisher and the startled bat!
It would be good to find more interesting things. Maybe a gold ring, or an earring that matches one I’ve lost. But no doubt I’ve already vacuumed them up!
Anyway I like this dragon, I will take him as a good omen for my college course project. Its about the mythology and history of dragons, and a children’s book based on a dragon story. So fingers crossed that I can get it done. X
A wizard presides over some of my collection of glass paperweights. I made sure the sun doesn’t shine in too brightly on this particular windowsill. There are no curtains so the glass orbs cannot set fire to anything – they could act as magnifying lenses. I think the first ones I got were a present about thirty years ago, but I then started collecting them. They are colourful and tactile. Creativity comes in many guises.
I made him at Etruria artists a couple of years ago. I textured the surface and it is bisque fired. I didn’t get it glazed so I used a pale metallic blue acrylic paint to colour it. It used to sit on the shelf with my orchids but hubby bought me a new orchid plant so it’s now on the kitchen windowledge.
I painted these mugs with special overglaze paints about three years ago when our art group at Etruria were still meeting. We haven’t done anything recently because of Covid. It’s only when I look back at things like this that I realise I was doing so much more than now. It’s only when I remember these things that you know I am, or was, capable of so much more than I’m doing now. The designs were from my imagination. Painted directly, no sketching out first. Give me my Mojo back!
