In about 15 minutes we had to draw a set of panels based on some prompts. The one I chose was someone at a campfire then something sinister happens…. I hope this is understandable. The final two panels are meant to increase tension. Finally she ends up facing a snake!
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was ‘wet’, I decided to draw the view of the pool at Dorothy Clive Garden but instead of paint I used felt pens. Took about an hour.
Old digital drawing I did of House, the actor Hugh Laurie.
I remember him from his comedy act with Stephen Fry, and also his appearances in Blackadder with Rowan Atkinson (who also plays Mr Bean).
I’ve watched most of the episodes, I’m fascinated by his characters ability to diagnose the most unusual diseases, and his inability to socialise with people.
Drawn at the old Sketchfu website several years ago.
The #bandofsketchers prompt today was sad. I looked for Sad images, but it came up with handsome or pretty people, sad cat memes and info about seasonal effective disorder. So I drew myself pulling a sad face. Black fine point ink drawing.
After over a year I finally went out today with my local urban sketchers group to a place called Keele Hall, part of Keele University. Its near Newcastle-Under-Lyme in Staffordshire. The hall was originally the home of Ralph Sneyd and his son a couple of centuries ago. It was then taken over as Stoke-on-Trent University but then was taken over as Keele University, one of the first campus universities in the UK.
Too complicated! I should have been there at 11, but by the time I got there and started it must have been 11.45, then time flew by. The sun was so bright I decided to lurk in a shadow, but even then it was hard to see details.
I used to love apples, crisp and crunchy or sweet and soft in a pie with cream. I wonder why I’ve stopped buying them? Stopped seeing them? I see lots of soft fruit, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, bananas galore, oranges, peaches, even limes, but I don’t see many apples? Perhaps there has been a shortage of them? Maybe there were not many harvested in autumn.
Funny how you only miss things in a sudden feeling that there is something gone from life. I wonder if politics, brexit, not allowing as many foreign workers into our country, has had an effect on it. It feels like the old sayings ‘shooting yourself in the foot’ or ‘cutting off your nose to spite your face’? No doubt things will sort themselves out? I hope!
Sketch I did for Thursdays #bandofsketchers prompt ‘show’ which I didn’t have time to post. This shows two heavy horses. They were part of a team of four pulling a brewery cart. One of the events that happen at county shows. I think I’ve captured their characters.
Sky landscape artist of the year is on again so I quickly found Plymouth and Smeatons Tower that is featured in this weeks programme. The tower was a lighthouse built out in the sea. But it was rebuilt when an automatic one took over. This drawing took me ten minutes.
I’m doing a single page narrative of how someone’s life has changed for the worse. So I chose hoarding as it’s insideous and creeps up on people. This is close to finished but I may add more. What do you think….
We had training at work about how to try and help hoarders. You can’t just tell people to throw things away, it won’t work. People become attached emotionally to their objects, an empty biscuit box might remind them of a relative they have lost. A pair of old shoes, a romantic holiday. Each item can be invested in memories and if they lose the object they fear they can lose the memory…. Sometimes people’s lives are overwhelming, if they live on their own with not many social contacts or an illness they may no be able to cope. Who do they turn to? And there is the embarrassment factor as well. Turning friends and family away because it’s hard to admit they have a problem. That’s what this little 9 panel story is about.
This image is in CYMK colours as it may be printed later. The size has to fit an A4 page with enough margins so the ink doesn’t bleed off the edges.
