Gone

The room was empty, their belongings? Gone. She looked around in disbelief. All of their stuff, years of accumulated debris, old cd’s, videos, books, clothes. Everything, even the plates out of the kitchen. The knives and forks, her old egg timer. It was like someone (him) had magiced everything away.

She had been away for three days, a course in Devon. After a long drive home she had been looking forward to coffee and an early night, not this?!

She walked slowly up the stairs..

The only things left were a wardrobe, a clothes rail, and the bed. Nothing else.

She lay down on the bed, confused. She didn’t know whether to ring the police, his parents, or just wait. How long did you have to wait to report someone missing? If he’d taken everything he must have left deliberatley?

A knock at the door….. What? She walked downstairs. She saw his face through the window. Why? She opened the door, ready to scream at him. He held up his hand. Sorry I wasn’t here. He said, everything happened too fast! It was meant to be a surprise….

Im sorry he said again. I’ve bought a new house… What? Where? How? Was what she said..

I won the lottery, he said.

Recurring dream

sketch-1570794568155

In my dream I’m in a city, buying a crumbling house, with many floors. It is so delapidated, chunks of rubble are falling from it.

The house is actually two houses one on top of the other. It is perched at the top of a vertical cliff, and bits of building keep falling off.

I don’t know why I’m having this dream. I’m not scared in it, the city seems recognisable as somewhere I know, the sun mainly shines, or the sun is setting. Sometimes I will be miles away and I have to walk back to the house, by convoluted paths.

All the buildings in the city are falling down, but they are like ruins, much more romantic than real buildings.

I want to work out why I’m dreaming this and I don’t understand is why it keeps recurring?

Helium balloon…

What to do?

If we let you free..

You will drift up..

And up….

Taking your helium high!

High pitched gas.

Into the sky….

Your plastic body

Metallic coloured bag

of odourless atoms..

A death trap for fish

Or other animals

If we release you.

So thanks friend,

We will wait

For your gift to deflate.

Hisssssss….

Then dispose of it.

Responsibly…

Sitting listening…

It’s quite cool today, so after going out for lunch, then coming back and doing a bit of gardening I’ve come into the relative warm (about 18.5°C) and I’m sitting listening to the Radio.

I’ve decided to try and keep the heating off as much as I can. It’s getting expensive and it’s not that cold yet.

It’s grey and showery outside. We had to cut the hedge back because our neighbours need access on the path round to their back yard and it runs past our garden. The trouble is one set of shears handle is coming loose and is held on with gaffer tape! When you cut branches with them they bend inwards so you can’t always get a good purchase on the twigs.

So anyway, the hat in the drawing was given to me by a friend when it was raining last week. I meant to take it back but forgot. Just dumped it on the pile of books by the front door.

Just had a real fright!

sketch-1570586665950

When you are sitting in your home watching TV at 2.30 in the morning you don’t expect someone to knock on your kitchen window. But that just happened. I shouted up to my husband who had just gone to bed. He came down and went to the back door–and let a young man in!… He said he was being chased by some other men. What could we do? I went to the front door and shouted that I was ringing the police-which is what I did. They dispatched a patrol who arrived after about twenty minutes. In the meantime my husband decided to go outside and have a look round! I was standing next to the young man, in my living room on my own! Luckily I was speaking to the police and trying to keep the man calm. I could feel my chest getting tight, I was quite shocked. At one stage the police dispatcher asked if I needed an ambulance! Anyway the police came and took him away to safety. They checked no-one was in the garden. I’m still shaking. Writing this to calm down and get it off my chest. It’s a case of what could have happened but luckily didn’t !

Sea and sand

IMG_20191007_001713_925

Build your castles on the sand and they might be washed away. Water creeps or washes in. It sinks down under the sand. The beach quakes. The rocks fall….

What is sand? Silica, ground up rock and shells. Sand can be melted into glass, a solid once liquid. Fused in heat either through vulcanism, lightening (did you know when lightening strikes damp sand it can melt a branching path through it, like plant roots?). Humans also build kilns and create glass to be blown or fused or slumped.

The sea washes or crashes in to a beach. Longshore drift pushes sand and rock sideways and along a coast. In a severe storm sand can be stripped off a beach completely, and yet it can equally be washed back again.

The world warms, water rises, sand washes away, cliffs crumble, castles crumble.

Life changes and evolves.

Soft toys

_20191005_182519

I seem to have collected a lot of these over the years. There’s a cat, two owls and a reindeer at least. I was given a couple of them and bought a few more. I like cute things, although I do wonder whether collecting them is sensible. Humans have a tendency to feel attached to inanimate objects. Like children love their toys, I guess adults love ornaments and objects. Sometimes this leads to hoarding, other times if the person is rich it might lead to collections of fine art. I think these could be described as two sides of the same coin. Both are ways of giving you pleasure, a good feeling each time you buy something, or hold it. But that feeling and impulse to buy can be an addiction. Or just holding onto belongings from a parent. Even a crisp packet that a good friend has eaten out of can have significance. So much so that it cannot be disposed of. Collection and hoarding are not so different…..

Might not do much today

_20190903_191148_optimized

After a lot of travelling over the last few days I’m having a bit of a rest today.

Been busy driving around North Wales and yesterday on the way back I felt myself almost falling asleep. We decided to take a detour on a road I didn’t know so my brain would keep working and I would have to keep alert. That seemed to help. Got home safely about 7 hours after setting off!

Today I had a lie in, didn’t get up till 11 after listening to the radio. Then my hubby went out and got Staffordshire oatcakes for breakfast. Very tasty.

I won’t go on… But if I think of something more interesting I might blog it.
