Cutting paper

FB_IMG_1575312093286

Do you ever fold paper into six and cut it up to make paper snowflakes? Thats what I did a couple of years ago. Then I duplicated it with my layout app. I did various iterations, this is one is favourite. I’m concentrating on old art work because I haven’t got the energy to draw or paint tonight. I will try and do more things in the next few days again. I also want to try and write some more poetry, but I feel jumbled up in my head…..

Words like winter, shivering, cold, spring to mind.

A few years ago

Two paintings I did for a leaflet a couple of years ago. The first was of Middleport pottery, a split image of two areas of the pottery, done to fit the images onto the page. The second, a view of the Trent and Mersey canal showing a lock that barges travel through where the water level changes. Opening the gates allows water to flow through and boats to go up and down the canal.

Acrylic paint on watercolour paper. Used by the canal and river trust on their leaflet.

Punk

Oh yes I remember it. 1970’s and 80’s. A mad time. Music that rattled roofs, clothes that were crazy combinations of safety pins and plaid. Piercings and mohecan hair cuts.

Bands like Ultravox, Souxi and the banshees, all the other ones I can’t remember, such a long time ago. So many mad parties. Pogo dancing, singing along. Fun.

How the world has changed. X

Drawing digitally.

Untitled67_001.jpg

I haven’t done much digital drawing lately. This was done in the free ArtRage app. I was just messing around with complementary colours, in this case red and green. I might lay around with hues and tones in a later iteration of this. It’s only a finger painting really, using metallic and non metallic digital paints.

I should try and copy a photo or use the other ArtRage app I have which is the pro version. I also could play with photoshop. I will think about it when things quieten down a bit.

Necklace

This is one of the necklaces I sold recently. Unfortunately the catch is a bit difficult to open for the new owner. Its a ball chain and you have to turn the chain to 90° to the clasp and slip the chain out. After a discussion I’m going to try and get a longer chain for her with a different clasp to make things easier. I want people to be happy with what I’ve created.

The things you find in old books.

DSC_2374.JPG

A train with pneumatic wheels that ran on the Paris underground? I didn’t know this existed, but it’s in the book my hubby is reading. It’s strange what you can find without looking at Google.

In the past you went to a library to find things out or research things, you took out the book and had your library card stamped, and a stamp put on the little form in the front of the book…..

Borrow for a week or two, then return so someone else could take it out. But beware, if you took it back late you could get fined! Books were sometimes sold off if they became out of date. Our bookshelves have some of these. The smell off a musty book, with slightly browning pages brings back memories of my school library, which for a comprehensive had a good big library, and our local, council library, with stern librarian keeping us all in order. Yellow or pale green walls and parquet flooring. Memories too of book covers with illustrations of dinosaurs or old fashioned atom symbols. I loved books on rocks and minerals and mystery stories. Craft books and origami. The library was the lace for ideas. Now many public libraries are gone, closed by politics not the Internet. Poorer people who can’t afford the Internet are kept away from knowledge. Sorry, getting political…..

Good memories…

Kingfisher

_20191207_141744

I went to the Orme Art group this morning and afternoon to paint. It was our Christmas meeting so we stopped early for lunch, but before that I started this painting of a Kingfisher, I have been using some iridescent paints to give some glimmer and shine to the bird and the background.

I came home early because I’m still tired from working on the mural yesterday. I want to add details to it to try and make it a bit more like a Kingfisher. I have tried, when I started someone thought it was a Woodpecker!

_20191205_114418looking at this photo turned on its side reminds me of an animal with external gills. With tentacles, with tiny eyes. It might be a landscape in reality, but it feels like something much more alien.

I imagine it floating above the land, syphoning up water from the surface of the sea. Eyes staring with disdain at a terrified population. Or perhaps visiting in friendship and hope.

When I was a child I helped with the washing up. I would spend ages stacking plates and cups and knives and forks into ancient or future landscapes. Maybe that’s why I do this to my photos?
