Odd Rode, Church window

One of the stained glass church windows at Odd Rode, it’s opposite the exit from Rode Hall. We came out of the Hall Gardens because the queue for the tea room was too long. The church was open for refreshments. We popped in and were made very welcome. The church was designed by Gilbert Scott. The same architect designed St Thomas Church in Penkhull. Sorry I forgot to make a note of the name of this church. We called in for scones and coffee. Very nice and friendly.

Why does everything look like a painting in the UK?

This question from an American friend made me laugh, then think. I guess the answer is that some of the subjects I take photos of are picturesque. That is to say, fit the ideals of what a painting should look like. But I guess I cropped this to improve how it looks, and I chose to take a photo of it. I saw other views that I could have photographed that would not have looked as nice.

playing with paper and felt pens

Sitting here- pondering what to do about college work, I never seem to get a minute to myself. I couldn’t sleep, I’m either too hot or too cold or someones elbow is sticking in my ribs, but because I woke up and started typing, now hubby is up and ready to go for a walk! For heavens sake can’t I get a quiet moment to myself?

I’m seriously thinking about single beds! you know you are getting older when you think that comfort outweighs companionship. No more knees in your back, or elbows in your ear, or your shoulder being used as a pillow.

No I’m not doing college stuff, I’m just trying to chill for half an hour. No doubt I will go back to bed soon!

Georges remembered

I spoke about doing a painting of Georges the dolphin a few weeks ago and yesterday I got a chance to take a photo of the painting which is acrylic on canvas. I forgot how much I loved painting this. I think he was a bottle nosed dolphin. They have upturned mouths that make them look like they are permanently smiling.

I think I looked at a photo of a dolphin to know where the fins were but the rest is imagined and the landscape is based on the south Devon coastline.

Rusty bars

I played with a photo of our old police station. I duplicated it four times and drew over the lines of metal mesh fencing and turned it into abstract metal bars. The foliage is meant to represent spring and new growth. I like the colour combinations. One day I will try and do some designs to add to bags and tee shirts and duvet covers. I’m a bit nervous of doing that. I don’t have enough knowledge to choose the right site to work with.

Memories of panto

Some of my scenery painting from a couple of years ago. I had to paint the backgrounds but also one of the stars of the show climbs into a mangle (that squashes clothes to get the water out) and he comes out flattened, a bit like a Tom and Jerry cartoon. I also painted the back of him on the other side so if it came out wrong way round it would also work. Behind me and the actors portrait is a bit of my scenery. It shows an old market or bazaar where Widow Twankey has a stall. If I can I’d like to try and do the same again if my arm and shoulder improves.

What should I post?

Am I getting boring? A bit of art and sketching, some poetry, stories about cats.

Sketching, drawing, painting. What more things should I try? More short stories. I suddenly find my stats have dipped. Is it the weather, the time of year. The threat of war in Ukraine. I can’t imagine how that will pan out.

I’m looking forward to a supernova that they have said may flare up soon. I’m strangely enthusiastic about space and science. I’m really more interested in stars not stats. Does that make me boring? Too many questions. No answers

A Zine…

I tried making a Zine, a concertina of pages with my college images stuck on them. I didn’t know how to make a book and this helped me to work out how to display individual images but as a collection. I intend to try and get pages printed off and then put them in some sort of binder. I also need to do the first inside page and title page plus the front and back covers. I probably don’t need to do the whole thing but it’s a lesson so it’s worth having a go C
