Bad painting with added filters

A kind of rescue

Life isn’t all perfect paintings. Sometimes if you can’t work out what to change you could take a photo and then use some digital filters to alter the image. It may not be perfect but it can be more interesting…

I used photodirector tools to make this look more like a print. It could also be painted on wood. The point is playing can help creativity. I like being a mad professor of experimental art. X

Abstract horse sketch

Playing with my sketching app again. This time I found my drawing stylus so I had more control over the lines in it. Although you can see by my writing that it’s not much more under control!

The pens in the app are very varied, here I used a solid flowing line, a texture and a watercolour effect. This could represent a chess piece, the knight. I like the way it’s turned out.

Add a filter

Just by adding one filter I was able to give this sky scape a liquid, oil paint looking vibe. The edges are softened and emphasised. The colours remain the same but are smeared across the photo. I used photodirector again. The style can be altered in various ways, I chose the second option. I find the effects vary depending on what photo I chose to work on.

Two clicks and a crop

My earlier ‘hope’ drawing with one lot of added texture, a smudge of gundge, then cropped to cut out my writing at the top. It’s amazing how quickly you can change something by just altering them slightly in an app. In this case I used photodirector. It’s OK, some of the stuff on it is too advanced for what I want, but I just use the simple stuff that’s free. What I don’t like is how a lot of art sites charge a monthly fee instead of letting you buy a package like you could in the past. Over time it adds up, and I can’t afford that.

Fern leaves

I can’t remember how I got this image, I know it’s based on a photo of fern leaves and I must have used layout to mirror the patterns. But how I added the various colours and added the tiles? I can’t remember. And just how did I get the embossed effect…. It must have been an app I no longer have on my phone. A puzzle, which is what the image looks like.

Finger painting in ArtRage

A finger painting done with the Artrage oils digital app which I think is free through Google. I use it on my little android phone. Two tools, a brush with four varieties with a sliding size bar and a pallette to choose colours from and the ability to to change the effect from non metallic to metallic. It’s quite a challenge to draw with a tool that smears and smooths out the surface as you draw on it. I enjoy it because you get such a different effect from other sketching apps.

Abstract polly?

I was trying to think what this pattern reminded me of? I think it is similar to a parrot. The curve at the top right could be a bill. The oval feature on the left could be where the eye goes? Pareidolia, the phenomenon of seeing faces and animals where they are not actually represented. I might try and play with it….

This was originally created in my old phone photo app….
