Thursdays #bandofsketchers prompt was solid. I went a bit mad and abstract. I wasn’t sure whether to try and draw platonic solids (not successful). Then I put it through a couple of filters. So it’s colourful and a bit textured.
New paintings and regular art updates.

Draw round anything with a thin pen and you get an interesting effect. It’s something I do occasionally as a meditation. Trying to keep a little distance from coloured splodges or around lines that I have already drawn or doodled. Somehow the lines remind me of the contours on a map, because they seem to join things together. Mostly I look at the back of my pictures and see if the ink has bled through it. I’ve written about this technique here before. It’s a way of creating something a little more abstract.

Thursdays #bandofsketchers prompt was knit.. I hadn’t got a clue what to do so I drew random pattern as if it was cable knit jumper in an abstract pattern. The colours are off because I took this photo in the kitchen and the lighting has a yellow cast. I only drw it today as I didn’t feel like doing it before.

What is it? Speckles and brown curves, white outlines and blue grey centre?
It’s my empty hot chocolate cup, duplicated, twisted, cropped.
Looking at things, and seeing something interesting in them can be quite exciting. Putting things together in a new way can create something new.

My combined autumn and spring painting I did about four years ago. It’s quite big and I really felt free when I painted it. But like many other paintings it stuck in my studio. I enjoyed exploring the two entirely different styles and colours in this. I might find it and try and get it in an exhibition. X

As I listened to the continuing news of the Queen’s death I decided to recreate a digital drawing a couple of days ago as a painting. It’s not exactly the same, but yet again I’m focusing on pattern and trying out the experimental style that I have been using recently. See what you think?

I need to get my paints out again. Doodling abstracts on my phone is OK, but I’ve hit a bit of a block at the moment. I have an easle set up on a chair but it’s covered in post and bits of paperwork. I think it’s because of having shingles. A lot less painful but I’m not getting out much. I haven’t done things I planned to do like going for walks with my hubby. Now the nights are drawing in. Soon the clocks will go back and it will be darker earlier in the day. Sorry for the meh post!

Mixed up. Abstract digital drawing. Drawn on top of another image. I like the fact that digitally you can keep adding and erasing parts of a drawing, covering areas with new effects. Changing the opacity of tools so you can see through to previous layers. You can also change the colours of your image to that you totally alter the mood of your artwork. This abstract could become a whirlwind or a rose? Who knows. I might do more to it.

It’s six months since Russia invaded Ukraine and I wanted to make an abstract image in blue and yellow to support the country. The Yellow marks are meant to represent sunflower petals catching the sun against a brilliant blue sky. The petals are interconnected to symbolise that determination of Ukraines people to support each other. Don’t forget the Russian troops massed on the borders of the country before invading. They had no right to do so despite trying to say the invasion was a ‘special operation’. Russia, please leave, we won’t forget what your troops have done.

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was curves. I drew random curves with a few felt pans taped together. Then I used Masking tape to block out lines. Finally I coloured in the uncovered paper, then removed the Masking tape and coloured the rest I’m slightly differently. I left the pad on the floor after taking a photo and the cat who had wet paws from sitting in the water that had spilled out of the hanging basket came snd sat on it and smudged it badly. So I added more colours to define the patterns again. That’s why there are two photos.
