Typing while asleep

sketch-1561850478972

I like blogging, but lately I’ve been nodding off when I’m doing it. I start typing and then I fall asleep. My finger stays on the keyboard and I end up typing random letters like ‘:hh:j=jm

I can’t help it the tiredness is being caused by a lack of sleep at night and then busy days.

Snake

IMG_20190629_195746_358.jpg

Slither, slink, shuffle, slip, slide, glide, gliding, snaking along the ground, writhing, side to side. Your scales patterned like strange jewels. You sniff with your tongue, viper split, sensing the air.

A tube of muscle, constrictor or viper with poison bite. Fangs deep in my flesh pierce my heart. Cobra or mamba, rattler or adder. Bringer of fear to some.

Sitting in the summerhouse

In the summerhouse

Writing the summerhouse,

In the baking heat,

Trying to relax and stretch,

On a hot seat.

No double glazed windows

No insulation to keep us cool.

Only the doors to open

See the little pool.

The steam is rising from my head,

My feet feel like lead.

Hot and humid

Wringing wet

Skin is dripping

With sweat.

Then the radio blared out

34 degrees at Heathrow

Cold, cool, frozen, water, shivering, teeth chattering….none of these are here right now.

If I had got ice or ice cream I would eat it like snow.

Thats what I want, you know.

Darkening sky and rising breeze,

Thunder rumbles overhead

Drops of water trickle down

Now heat and wind have fled.

A streak of lightening,

A whip of lightening Streaks the air

Then the pub returns a blare

Of House, rap, and garage music.

It’s not the heat that drives me in.

But the beat that does my head in!

Hay-fever eyes

_20190629_103455

Argh! Pollen count is really high today, I’ve taken a Hay-fever tablet and my nose is mildly itchy, but my eyes! I’m rubbing them so hard that it hurts. I need to get some eyedrops but it’s too high a pollen level to want to go out. So I’m waiting till later till the tablet takes effect.

I started getting Hay-fever at a young age when I would wake up with what I called “sleep” in my eyes, all gunged up. Then when I was a teenager about to do my exams it got worse. The sneezing and coughing. Walking about unable to see because of my blurry eyes.

I think I’m growing out of it a bit, but it might just be because we don’t have any grass nearby. My garden is full of trees and flowers which I’m OK with. It’s grass, and particularly Timothy grass that effects me. Timothy grass is used by local councils for grass verges so it can be ubiquitous.

Anyway my tablet is kicking in. So I’m off out. Bye

Glass window?

sketch-1561764232238

I was playing around with a photo of the stained glass windows in the church and came up with this. I sort of like it although I’m not sure the church would. When you use flood fill it causes a loss of details so you can’t see the faces on the image. I chose a rainbow flood fill so could create circles on top of the image.

Circles

curves and angels

winged with colour

flying high.

Art with rainbows

Black reflections,

illuminating and obscuring.

Circular arguments,

simple shapes

scriptural thoughts

saints and sinners,

seperated by glass.

Tiles in the church

Today I got some photos of Minton tiles in St Thomas’s Church penkhull. I’ve got to paint some for the Mystery play so I needed to see the genuine article. I’m hoping I can get a realistic look to them. They are in a scene where they have to be sold to raise money.

What I like are the simple colours, browns, pale ochres, blues and white. The interesting geometric patterns and curves. I may struggle to replicate them. But you have to try!

Spode Site

On a bright sunny day Spode can be fascinating. The huge chimney with its Spode sign and the skeletal remains of the factory show a stark yet beautiful side of the manufacturing world.

Spode Site is in the town of Stoke-upon-Trent and is situated in an area bounded by Glebe Street, Church Street and Eleanora Street.

The site is mostly off limits to the public, but studio holders and visitors are able to access parts of it to use and to produce arts and crafts and enjoy workshops.

The hotel at the site seems to be doing well and they have expanded the area outside for seating.

Then in September the BCB (British ceramic biannual) arrives in town. There should be plenty to see and do.

Scenery painting

I’m doing some backdrops for the Penkhull mystery play. I have calico to paint on, rather than static flat paintings that I usually do. This years backdrops are going to be rolled up and dropped down for the appropriate scenes.

Today apart from painting two willow pattern birds on papier mache I painted an eight foot by four foot backdrop of the church.

The problem was seeing the church through the trees. These mature lime trees have grown tall in the intervening years since the Church was built in the 1840’s. The backdrop is minus the trees. There was apparently a quarry and marl pit at the top of the hill which eventually filled with water and was a duck pond before it was filled in. There was a school on the land before the church was built and it was rebuilt at the top of Trent Valley Road (now the village hall). At the alter end of the church on the outside there were pigsties. I think these must predate the church.

More information about the village of penkhull can be found in books by the local author Richard Talbot.

More painting news will follow when I paint more.

Sunlight

DSC_1979

6am, sunlight creeps in

and bathes the dusty books

with a golden glow

chases away the cobwebs

sings loudly by the door

breaks vases with a sparkle

finds dust motes in the air.

Sunlight cleans and bleaches

exposes over and over

till red book covers are faded

now salmon pink

Sunlight tinged with heat

warms your head

tickles your feet

raises a smile

makes you feel alive

a photosynthetic  dash

of vitamin D

Sunlight is Life.
