New paintings and regular art updates.
I used to drive past these sculptures regularly, but I didn’t take much notice of them. Now I’m walking I see more than before, like these in a local school grounds. I don’t know who made them, but they are interesting, and possibly by the same artist?
I also saw signs of spring. Catkins. Soon the buds will be bursting… But first will be… March…. Winds and rain….
Quick sketches using a graphite stick and a putty rubber to lift the graphite back for a mark making workshop. The small sketch was 2.5 minutes drawn with the graphite stick held between my little finger and ring finger. The woman with the octopus was ten minutes and the floating man was fifteen minutes. The man’s head was just made up as I listened to the lecture…
Trees are huge, yet delicate. Branches, stems, twigs. So much to see, so hard to draw. Mature trees are suffering damage all the time now. Gales blow down limbs, rain undermines their roots. Fungi and bacteria, so small, can lay a tree low. Sudden Oak Death, Ash die back, so many trees are disappearing from the country. Once it was Dutch Elm disease, now it could be any number of infections and lesions.
We are seeing the effect of the anthropocine, the effect of humans on the natural world. We need to change for the good of nature.
The door is a mouth, the eyes could be the windows or the lamps on either side of the door… The cross above the door could be a nose. Pareidolia, the phenomenon of seeing faces, figures or animals in other images, be it a building or a mark on a pavement…
For instance I can see the shape of a lion or a cat profile here in this spilt liquid on the pavement….

Io, Callisto
Titan, Deimos.
Flying round planets
And orbiting them.
Saturn has many
Does Jupiter have more?
So many it could raise
An army of them to war?

Stairs or stairway. This is the top of our stairs with a bookcase full of books and old photo albums. Quick 15 minute sketch for today’s #bandofsketchers prompt. Calligraphy Ink pen and marker pens (some are running out).
When you want to try and draw a detailed tin but it’s a bit too complicated. Why not try a graphite stick and do a rubbing? Then I added shading for the sides and a bit of black ink for the shadows with my calligraphy pen (I do like it).
I am singing in a zoom meeting choir so I decided to try and draw myself singing.

Learning to illustrate means playing with different techniques. Both of these are black ink. One is just using a black calligraphy pen and the other a fine liner pen and a calligraphy pen. The top is called ‘what’s for tea?’ and the second is a tiny ‘cat teapot’.
Another walk up to Etruria and back along the canal, but the sun was out and with a light breeze it wasn’t too cold. I’m walking faster, but getting more tired. I was due at choir practice tonight but fell asleep!
