It was hailing earlier, then a great shower of rain and then the sun came out. That sort of weather when it doesn’t know what it’s doing… Leaves are still on the plants and flowers too. Mainly because it’s been cloudy at night, keeping the heat in a bit. The lowest temperature I’ve seen was about 5.2°C in the middle of the night.
My hanging baskets are looking a bit bedraggled but we will see what happens over the next few days. Life cycles round, winter arrives later every year…
Last January
It snowed
Huge flakes fell out of a grey sky
Cotton wool pieces
Layering up
Cold biting my bones
Blanketing the world with a white duvet
Smothering sounds
Birds hushed
Edges softened
Till drip, drip, drip
The thaw arrives.
Storm warning. There is a storm in the bay of biscay heading our way. Expect a red sky in the morning and a swirl of rain edging up the country. Some flooding and fallen trees expected. Nice, just when I was hoping for late summer sun! The wind will blow and we shall have? Storms! I had such plans a seaside trip, gentle tides, a sea view, seagulls wheeling. But maybe next week it will be better….
Oh I feel rough. My throat is really sore and I’m aching. I’ve had a very quiet day, plenty to drink and some painkillers. I’m sure it’s just an autumn cold but I’m fed up with it. I have things to do. College starts again tomorrow. I’m still walking and trying to get a bit fitter, but I feel like I’ve been knocked off my feet. I will see how I feel later but I might have an early night. I haven’t blogged much today. I have a few pictures I might add. I don’t know yet….
Soon there will be bare trees
Dark skies
Fallen leaves
Damp leaf litter
Cold miserable ducks
Sitting on icy ponds
Or Canada geese
Stretching their legs
Ruffling their feathers
Trying to keep warm.
Weather drawing in
Cold wind
Rain falling in sheets
Snow and sleet showers.
Winter greys, not blues….
Leaves on fire
Bright like stained glass.
Arched and curved.
Twisted and crisp
Like brittle sugar glass
Crispy or soggy
Under children’s feet,
Kicking the fallen leaves.
Leaves because they’ve left?
Made me feel happy, seeing sunshine
Seeing blue-sky
Now it’s grey and overcast
Threatening rain
What a pain…
I’m going for a walk
Long or short?
Depends on the weather…
For ducks?
Four winds blow
East, North and West
Don’t forget South.
Four faced breezes
softly and gently
Like a blown kiss
Warm southerly
Cold northerly
The winds blow from the East
And lands freeze
From the West and storms
They rage.
Howling
Moaning
Shouting
Weeping
Four faced
Strong but gentle
Creating an atmosphere!
The storm has been winding round our house all day. Trees bending, wind moaning through the gap in our badly sealed kitchen window. Gusts over 50 miles an hour. The fence is collapsing, the hanging baskets are skittering about, too heavy to take down from their brackets. I will wait and see what damage results from the storm. Meanwhile its blowing across the whole country, an unusually low pressure system for this time of year is tearing at the leaves on the trees. There will be trees blown over, heavy seas, gusting winds. Not fit for man or dog! Torrential rain falling and flooding towns and villages. Not fun. X
Could it thunder again?
Is it possible?
It’s forecast.
I sit waiting.
Listening for rumbles.
Bright flashes.
It’s rained heavily,
But no bangs and crashes.
No flashes or smashes
Pent up heat
Humidity.
Pressure is high
but falling rapidly.
If I sleep
Will I wake
To fireworks or whizz bangs!?
