Kitchen at night

_20200520_035358

I am just putting my phone on charge and I looked up and saw the light from the back door porch shining through and reflecting off the walls and the windows. As you can see I’m growing a lot of Christmas cacti and other plants including a baby oak and a sweet pepper plant on the windowsill. There are also glass mobiles hanging up there. Why? Because I got burgled twenty years ago and as well as an alarm I decided to make it as awkward as possible for anyone to try an climb through a window without knocking stuff off.

I think this might eventually turn into a painting. Night all

Quiz name?

_20200516_225119

I’m part of a quiz team which is meeting online for the first time, and we need to decide on a name for us.

It’s complicated because the team will be videoconferencing and texting at the same time… Technology. As they say its a steep learning curve.

Then of course there’s the questions. I think there might be a theme to them. When I went to a ‘real life’ quiz run by the same people the theme was seasonal. I don’t have a clue about the questions. As long as they are not music or sports based.

So wish us luck and hopefully by Monday we’ll have a name.

Anti lockdown meetings?

DSC_2531

A couple of weeks ago? A friend asked me to share details of a meeting against the lockdown and I refused. I thought it was a bad idea as its just an opportunity for the virus to start spreading again…

It now turns out that there have been calls all over the country for people to meet up. It looks like a peaceful protest… BUT it turns out the meetings are being organised by far right anti vaccination groups.

What worries me is that people will go.

The outcome may be: Hug, meet, die! Our health service is struggling. Why would you go and infect a stranger? People are asymptomatic and may not even be aware they are ill. Will all of them be wearing masks…? I doubt it.

Stay safe, don’t go to one of these meetings. Don’t be misled by right-wing agitators.

People

The door stands in the way. But I can hear people outside, running along the pavement, downhill, then up. A couple of car doors slam. An engine starts, quietly. I want to look out, but the door is firmly locked. It’s late. I could look out of the window, but that means parting the curtains, giving the game away.

A little later…. All is calm again, the mad thunder of feet has receded, I heard my bin lid thud down, but I’m not going to look. Possibly an old beer can? It’s happened before.

I don’t really like living with my front door on the pavement. I wish we had a front garden. There is a garden at the side of our house, iit’s ours, full of trees and bushes. Local people dump beer cans and fag packets in our hedge. Life, and people, have been quieter lately. But if I was put on a desert island I would be OK.

I spoke too soon, cars (with people in) crashing down  their gears, rushing to get up the hill. Sometimes they seem to race each other.

If, and when the lockdown ends, I will have to get used to people again.

Yesterday, VE day…

_20200219_071735_optimized

In other parts of the city there have apparently been large congregations of people, playing house music late into the night to celebrate VE day. People are so badly informed and they are clearly not thinking about social distancing and their own and their families safety.

But it’s been all quiet down our street for most of the day and evening.

However the people round the back of our house had an argument earlier on. My hubby could hear them (and he’s very deaf). I was inside so didn’t hear it. I’m wondering if we should have rung the police. It’s worrying what is going on behind closed doors.

I wanted to avoid VE day. There were so many deaths, so much sadness as well as the rejoicing.

I think lockdown needs to continue. We need to take it seriously. And don’t start me on Brexit!

Dragon in my sketchbook?

The dragon flew into my sketchpad from my imagination tonight. I was watching a series called Merlin on TV and it just sort of happened. The purple ink pen went a bit splodgy.

The world is still in lockdown. People want to escape but its not safe. So playing with glitter glue, ink pen and felt pens is just taking my mind off it. Then edited it to a negative image to be a bit different.

Descending stats…

_20200501_152939

Oh dear, I must be a bit more interesting, my monthly stats seem to be descending… But like everyone else I’m a bit limited in where I can go. And do you really want to read about face masks and social distancing.

So what can I talk about? My hair is growing, it seems to be evolving!

It’s turned frizzy and white (not overnight, and not from fright). I did mess it up a bit on this photo!

So if you don’t mind me, I will keep posting bits and bobs here.

Black and red sketches..

_20200413_171401

I might be submitting some little black and red drawings to a group exhibition. It’s not something I’ve done before. The work is meant to be two inches square with it being in ink and on white paper.

After drawing the two images on the left side of the paper, I realised there was not enough white and I had used too dark a red in the first one.

I tried to draw the two patterns again, but they didn’t come out as well as I’m still quite tired from staying up too late last night. What do you think? Are they interesting enough?

Five minutes to save the world

DSC_2387

Time marched on. Suzanne looked up into the blue sky and saw a bird up high. But the bird was blowing a line of smoke from its back and its wings did not flap. What was it?

She remembered her childhood, when the Great death came. Each of her grandparents, and her mother were gone in a week. Her father tried to raise her, but he had to work and earn money. So he was always away in the woods, cutting and sawing for people who could not gather firewood. They lived in an old house. Central heating did not work, no one knew how to fix it, and there was no longer a gas supply.

She looked up again, the bird, or whatever it was, had flown over the horizon, and the smoke was disappearing into the beauty of the blue sky.

Over in Omereca, a man stood by a screen, his hand hovering over the red button. Yes or no? He had the choice. The clock was running down. Would he press and destroy everything?

His aide ran in as the clocked ticked to 11.55pm.

Sir, he said quietly, the plane, its come back! They have images, there are people there, they saw woodsmoke.

The Restidebt took his hand away slowly from the button. Now we start to rebuild he said as they left the room together.

Limerick

It’s not very good, it sort of rhymes but the fourth line is a bit weak and the fifth needs a better ending.

The challenge was to write something funny. But limericks are not that easy, for instance sometimes writers repeat the first line in the last one…

For instance “there was an old man from portmadoc” might end “that wise old man from portmadoc!”, which is a bit of a cheat really. Maybe my limerick is a bit  inappropriate, but I based it on the current situation. X
