Friends Thai Restaurant..

_20200427_161438

Just drawn this sign for my friends Thai Restaurant. Sawadee Thai Taste in Stoke-on-Trent. She has a hand written sign in biro saying she is doing take away. But no one can see it. So while I go and collect a meal I’m going to drop this off.

I think in these stressful times it’s important to help out, even though this is only a little help…

So many small local businesses are going to close with the virus impacting on them. I want to support what I can.

Two tier cats

_20200411_133700

Two cats are taking over the kitchen. The boy is up on the cupboard, while the girl races towards me as soon as I get my phone to take their pictures. I just managed to snap this before she got to me.

I want to get out later on and try and get a photo of the cherry blossom in the garden. It’s just starting to burst, but the forecast is for the weather to get cold again in a couple of days so  I hope the blossom stays safely furled till after the weather improves again.

Anyway the cat wants a love, so better go now. X

So then I drew a dragonet

Another four year old picture from my memories. Another one done in ArtRage. Just a bit silly and fun. I think it started out as an attempt to draw an egg, then I got a bit creative. I’ve illustrated a book before, and this could be used for that sort of thing.

Drawing from your imagination is more difficult because you have to have an idea of what you are drawing in your head. I often describe what I’m drawing to myself so that I have an idea of how to depict it. I want to get my mojo back!

Quick drawing

Quick sketch

I’m trying sketching in an app called sketcher free, it’s interesting drawing with textured pens, but it’s not easy to control. This is drawn on a tablet, so the format of wordpress is different in it, not wordpress classic. I’m not sure this is going to work. Anyway you only learn by having a go at things, if you don’t try you never know if you can do it. I’ve found the categories tab but I can’t find the sharing tab . So at least I’m doing something , still not feeling well.

Spider or beetle?

IMG_20200208_203046_285

Roots can be interesting and exciting. Just be duplicating a picture you can get something fascinating. This looks like a spider to me, but someone else suggested a beetle about to fly. Or I guess it could be a land crab?

Anyway see what you think, have you got any images you can play with and create flights of fancy?

Sunset sketch

Untitled74_001

I wanted to do a colourful sketch of the sunset which was all oranges and purples. I can’t get it exactly right as it is drawn in ArtRage oils, basically it’s a finger painting. I got the idea from a photo by a friend on a Facebook page, but as it’s just an impression there is no point in sharing the photo as this is much more impressionistic than the original.

Photo glitch

IMG_20191114_165233_550this interesting effect is on my phone. I was trying to take two seperate photos, but my camera on the phone was playing up. I guess this is like a digital double exposure. I haven’t seen anything like it before. It’s quite strange as the first image must have stayed on the image processor or whatever it is and the second image must have added to it. I think the coloured images were the ones I took first?

Would any of you photographers out there know what caused this?

Ice

I just took this photo, you can photograph anything and get an interesting result. In this case I like the way the cartoon cats surround the block of ice and almost seem to glow.

My tips for photos?

Look first. Even if you are seeing something through a lens look at it to see if you are including things you don’t want.

Don’t be scared to crop your photo. Got a streetlamp sticking up in the sky? Crop it if you don’t want it.

Don’t filter too much if you can help it. Once you start adjusting colours it’s hard to find the right balance. Sometimes you have to, but don’t over do it.

Use your on screen focus if you have it. If you can see something interesting you can us the focus option to just select that area. It also changes the depth of field.

Drawing again

DSC_2170_20190812_164944_20190812_164910

Two sketches. One yesterday at Astle Park traction engine rally, I drew this at the end of the day when all the vehicles has left the show ring except for this miniature traction engine. I could have just taken a photo but as it stayed still for quite a while I drew instead.

The second picture was drawn outside but then we went into the restaurant as we were being bothered by wasps. I took a photo of the drawing while we were inside. I didn’t realise it was so dark in there with a blue tone to the lighting. I adjusted it with a photo editor. It shows how long it took to get served, the place was really busy. The food was very nice though.
