Taking photos of your cat?
Be sure to be quick
Or they will move…
Fast, blurred, speedy, slick..
But if you set your shutter speed to fast,
You might catch them
In the
Act!
New paintings and regular art updates.

I always know that the year is turning when there is still light in the sky at 5pm. I noticed it more when I was finishing work at 5. I loved coming home in daylight. It makes me feel that there is time to do more with life. I think I get too entombed in the winter… So yay for the return of sunshine!

The 64 million artists January challenge today was to post some music and an image on the theme ‘dance like there’s no tomorrow’.
My problem is I still have a sore hip and I don’t really have a music collection.. What to do? I asked my hubby to dance… Lots of laughter and this photo. I’ve cropped it so he cannot be identified….

I warn you,
I have my claws ready!
Waiting to grab you
If you dare
Tickle my tummy,
Beware
This cat has claws
And he’s ready to use them!

Surreal image of sea and sky. I choose things that will make a good picture when they are duplicated and put together in a pattern. The waves were breaking in the distance and the sand was thinly covered with a film of water. The groynes are wearing out but still stop the sand drifting. I like the triangles on poles at either end of them (only one in the original photo) I think this makes a plesant composition…

I’m not saying what you are,
A great green mop of fur.
Reflected vegetation?
I’m not sure what you are.
Troublesome alien,
Grass or reeds?
Still not sure what you are.
Pink and green,
Flower and leaf?
You are what you are..
A duster..
Who knows?

Sorry for the bad photo of this, but this was my old cat. She was on the big painting I posted a few days ago. She was very clever and if I tapped the wall on the other side of the gate she would jump the gap. I decided to take a photo on an old 35mm Olympus trip camera (this was before digital). She jumped on cue and I snapped the photo. When I saw it I decided to paint it. I won a small prize in a local art exhibition.

One of my favourites. The centres of these are a multitude of flowers with petals round the edges (think of sunflower hearts). There are oxeye daisies and osteospermums, cone flowers, asters, all sorts of types and colours. Life in all its variations can be wonderful. This photo is of Rudbeckia I think, taken at Trentham Gardens in the autumn. What I like about daisies is the length of time throughout the year that they flower. They cheer me up.
Have you ever made daisy chains? We used to when we were kids. Pick a daisy and make a hole in the stalk with your fingernail parallel with the stalk, then thread another daisy through till the flower head is in contact with the stem. Then do again till you have a chain. (I’m not suggesting you do this, just how we did it, you shouldn’t pick wildflowers).

When we went to the showing of Humanus, the film, last year, we got dressed up in fancy dress and make-up to look like zombies. I wore an air mask over my face to look more interesting. While I was putting the make-up on I decided to take a photo of my reflection in a mirror. I like the creativity of whoever made the frame around it. It was made of lollipop sticks stuck together making a star burst around the mirror. I converted it to black and white to make it more atmospheric.
By the way I’ve never been able to get the red face paint out of my hubby’s shirt!

Got up and saw one of the cats sitting on the windowledge in the front bedroom. She likes watching the traffic passing and seeing the pigeons fly up onto the factory roof. The picture is grainy because it was very early in the morning, about the same time I took photos of the dawn. Cats are curious creatures. They love looking at things, playing with their toys and chasing each other. But sometimes they have a quiet moment and just sit and watch the world go by.
